A League 3rd rnd Away to Ballivor played Saturday 7th at 4pm

November 7, 2018

Final Score Meath hill 2 – 4  Ballivor 0 – 9.

Meath hill garnered another to 2 pts in the A league away to Ballivor to remain unbeaten after three matches.

This match was played in terrible conditions with persistent wind and rain throughout this keenly contested match.

The Hill played against the elements in the first half and were happy going in at half time only 1pt down especially with Ballivor losing a player to a straight red following a clear striking offence. An opportunist goal by the impressive Dean Farrelly kept Meath hill in the hunt at half time.  A point blank save by keeper Mark Kierans contributed to the narrow margin also. HT score Ballivor 0 – 5 Meath hill 1 – 1.

But as so often happens playing against 14 men complacency sets in and the weakened team ups their game and Ballivor went 3 pts up soon after the resumption with a couple of well taken points. There was a time that the Hill might get beaten in such circumstances but not this team  – a punched goal from  Keith Ginnitty following a slip by Ballivor keeper and 2 pts from Derek McMahon (Veggie) put Meath hill 1 pt. But Ballivor were not finished and continued to take the fight to the hill and only the post and some glaring misses kept the Hill from succumbing to the onslaught. With only injury time left Tadgh Boyle who had a n impressive outing in midfield fired the wining score from a free and despite a number of scares the hill held out for a 1 pt win.

Best for the Hill were M. Kierans in goals,  M. McCabe, Barry Kierans and Brian Hanratty at the back Keith Ginnitty and Tadgh Boyle were strong at midfield. Derek McMahon contributed 2 crucial second half points in a generally misfiring attack , but giving the terrible conditions great credit must be given to both teams in their endeavours.

Scores: Meath hill Dean Farrelly 1 – 0, Keith Ginnitty 1 – 0, Jackie Maguire 1pt, Derek McMahon 2pts, Tadgh Boyle 1pt. Subs used Donnacadh Boyle, Karl Parge.
