Annaghdown Club Notes Aug 22nd

November 8, 2018

This weeks lotto winning numbers were 4,10,12,17 and we no jackpot winner and we had six match three; Marion Small, Seamus Durkin, Rebecca Hughes, Mike Lee, Joanne Canavan and Gerry Cahill, The promoters prize went to Pat Small Castlequarter. Next weeks jackpot is €8200 and the draw is on in the Club House on Monday night.

We beat Athenry in the Junior C Hurling Quarter Final by 2.10 to 1.6 on Sunday evening last.  Annaghdown advance to the semi finals of this competition after a hard fought victory played in difficult conditions. Athenry were a tough outfit and never gave up but great defending from all our backs and superb finishing from the stick of Ciaran O'Connor insured a good victory. We lead at half time by 1-4 to 0-1 with Tom Burke scoring a goal and a point after being switched from midfield to corner forward. Annaghdown started the second half well with O'Connor striking some good frees but a tonic goal for Athenry put Annaghdown on the back foot but O'Connor collected a ball soon after and crashed home a cracker to give the team some breathing space. Team was: Padjoe Fahy, Eoin Murtagh, Kenny Leonard, Marc Connaughton, Reggie Burke, Carl Leonard, John King, Vivian Silke, Thomas Burke (Capt.)(1-1), Rob Mulryan, Pa Murphy, Ciaran OConnor(1-9, 0-7 frees), Aidan Connaughton, Christy Burke and Ronnie Newell. Subs used: Paul Walsh, Fergus Fahy, John King and Aidan Joyce.

We play Milltown in the Senior Football Championship Qualter Final fixed for Sept 8/9 but this will probably change as our County minors play in the All-Ireland final the following week-end. We play Mountbellew-Moylough in the Minor football championship this Wednesday evening in Corofin at 7.00 pm and well done to Galway on reaching the All Ireland final and to our panellist Daniel Dennegan.

In the Intermediate hurling we lost to Rahoon Newcastle by 0-18 to 5-9.
