Annaghdown GAA News July 3rd

November 8, 2018

U16 Hurlers lost out to a very good Meelick-Eyrecourt team in the championship semi-final. While the boys in maroon played well in the first half  they didn't take a number of the chances they created. A physically stronger and fitter East Galway side totally dominated the second half and really made Annaghdown pay for beating them in the group game in Cregg back in early May.

We drew with Headford in the John Dunne cup on Saturday evening to bring to a conclusion our involvement in that competition. Having trailed by 0-10 to 0-6 at the break a much better second half performance say us share the spoils. Team: Stephen Potter, Ronan Newell, Martin O Neill, Cian O’Toole, Sean Forde, Brendan Dooley, Matthew Duggan, Michael Naughton, Conor Scully (0-4), Aidan Burke, Ian Burke, Diarmuid Newell (0-1), Christopher Greaney (1-2, 1f), Martin Scully (0-1), Eoin Curry (1-6, 4f 1 45) Subs Sean Fahy, Cathal Small, James Healy.

Senior Footballers play Salthill in the league in Cregg at 8pm on Friday evening.

Division 5 Football League v Glinsk in Glinsk on Saturday at 7.30pm

There was disappointment for the Galway Tribesmen Under 17 hurling team who were defeated by Derry on a 2-18 to 3-12 scoreline in the final of the Corn William Robinson Division 3 Celtic Challenge competition last weekend.   Annaghdown were represented by Oisin O'Toole, Darragh O'Sullivan and Oisin Dillon on this team.

Best wishes to Diarmuid Kilcommins who lines out for the Galway minor hurlers in their championship opener against Limerick on Sunday. The game takes place on Sunday at 1.15pm in Thurles.

Annaghdown beat Kiltormer in the Junior B Hurling Championship on Saturday last with the final score 3-16 to 2-12.
