Ards 13 - 21 Corinthians

November 7, 2018

Corinthians beat Ards last Saturday to remain one of 5 unbeaten teams in division 3 of the AIL league. In a scrappy affair, Corinthians never settled and will be relieved to have come home with the point after a disappointing performance. Corinthians looked more threatening on attack in the first half but failed to convert some good line breaks into points and it took an intercept by outside centre James Buckley to give them a 7-0 lead after about 30 min.

Corinthians playing into the wind were guilty of giving too much first phase possession to Ards, who were able to dominate field position but were unable to convert this into points. The beginning of the second half belonged to Ards and an early try after a sustained attack took the score to 13 all. After this Corinthians began to get back into the game and were rewarded with a penalty with about 15 minutes left on the clock. The successful kick relieved the pressure and Corinthians dominated the last quarter and after a good passage of play by winger Darin Claasens scored in the corner with only a few minutes left on the clock. The 2 score buffer took the bite out of the game and although Ards chased the loosing Bonus Point some committed defence was enough to seal consecutive wins for Corinthians.
