U12 Hurling: The u12 hurlers have kicked off their 2013 campaign in recent weeks and have won out of their first four matches. The red team went down to an impressive Silvermines first team in the first game, with the blue team restoring some pride by coming out with a win on the night in Dolla. Round two was held in Ballina last Saturday lunchtime in the searing heat. It was very hard for the boys to keep their energy levels up in the sun. The Red team managed to get ahead early on thanks to a Daniel O Meara goal and they managed to stay a head until the final whistle against a clearly tiring Killdangan. Corey Ryan was a power of strength at full back and made some inspirational clearances. Captain Robbie Breen led by example and did the simple things well every time. Michael McMahon, who would have been regarded as a very good defender, has shown in recent games that he has plenty to offer up front with a quick strike for point following a great pass from Sam Loughran. Half time subs Conor Power and Tadgh Maguire had a huge impact against tiring legs and it was no surprise that both were involved in the match winning goal, with Tadgh unsettling the opposition in midfield and Conor finishing it smartly in the net. The blue team has been helped out by a number of the U10s in recent weeks due to absences and what an impact they have made.  Kian Donnelly caught the eye with a great second half and there were huge performances also from Patrick McCormack [many people’s man of the match] and Cathal O’Donnell. We have two hurling teams, both competing in groups of ten teams, which means nine games for each team. Well done to all.

Ballina/Boher Community Games: U10 footballers were in action at Semple Stadium against Powerstown/Lisronagh [Moyle Rovers] in the County Tipperary Community Games u10 Mixed Gaelic Football Final.  Ballina/Boher put up a wonderful performance and in an exciting contest were drawn at two points each until a late goal clinched the issue for the South Tipp team on a score-line of 1-2 to 0-2. Cathal O’Donnell and Braoin Cleary were the Ballina/Boher scorers. Congratulations to a good Powerstown/Lisronagh team. Ballina /Boher defeated Roscrea and Moycarkey Borris in the earlier rounds to qualify for the Tipperary Final in Semple Stadium. Well done to this young team.
