Barna seniors beat Caherlistrane to set up semi-final with St Michael's

November 8, 2018

Barna GAA’s senior footballers qualified for a county semi-final for only the second time ever after beating Caherlistrane by five points at Corofin on Saturday evening.

Jason Lyons scored ten points and goals in either half from Tom Curran and Eoin McDonagh proved decisive as Pat Fallon’s men advanced to the semi-final for the first time since 2010.

After recovering from the concession of an early goal, a penalty converted by Oisin O’Brian, Barna led by six points 1-10 to 1-4 at half time with the aid of a strong breeze at their backs.

Caherlistrane fought back after the break but Barna kept the score board ticking over and crucially their defence stood strong. The final score was Barna 2-15 Caherlistrane 1-13.

The seniors’ semi-final against St Michael’s has been fixed for Sunday, September 28 at 2pm in Tuam Stadium, the first of a double header that includes Corofin versus Milltown.

St Michael’s have never reached a senior championship final either so whoever wins between Barna and the city club, will appear in their first ever county showpiece.
