Benefit Hurling Match

Photographed here are the 50 players who took part in the benefit game organised by the present Junior hurling team to support their former comrade Dermot Molloy and his partner Carol Fleming.

Dermot and Carols young baby boy Danny was born in South Tipperary General Hospital early in August but became ill within 12 hours and had to be transferred to Crumlin where he was diagnosed with a rare condition, truncus arteoriosis, which affects the pumping of his blood from his heart and prevents the lungs from getting an adequate supply. Even though he is only 5 months old Danny has already undergone a number of operations and will have to undergo many more in the future.

The benefit game was played in Anner park Cloneen in good weather conditions in front of a very large crowd. This years junior hurling team played a team from the past made up of players from the 2005 and 2010 teams. In an enjoyable and entertaining game the 2014 team beat their 2005/2010 combination opponents on a scoreline of 5-9 to 2-13.

The 2005/2010 team lined out as follows: Colm Duggan, Tommy Griffin, Kieran Clancy, John Hayden, Paddy Moroney, John O’Brien, Anthony Barry, Danny Gleeson, Aaron Cronin, Willie McCormack, Richie Needham, Eoghan McCormack, Sean Horan, Brian McCormack, Noel Brett, Kenny Brett, Richie Horan, TJ Noonan, John Gleeson, Jason Hayes, Declan Ryan, Michael Nash, Mickey O’Connell, Keith Browne, Ian Hickey, Derek Noonan.

The 2014 team lined out as follows: Darren Boland, Colm Dunne, Paul Horan, Darren Meagher, Ciaran Mockler, Neil Gleeson, Conor Clancy, Nicky Kearney, Aidan Buckley, Tony O’Brien, Conor Barry, Mark Mullally, Robbie Meagher, Robbie McCormack, Brendan Gleeson, Damien Barry, Conor Cuddihy, Willie O’Brien, Mark Slattery, Conor Gorey.

Among those present who were unable to line out were Cathal Mahony, John Moroney, Chris Foley, John, Patkie & Liam Brett, Dermot Molloy, Tom Burke.
