Bord Na nOg Statement

At last years AGM it was agreed by majority vote that in addition to the €20 membership for underage players for 2009 there would be a transport levy of €30. This was agreed following a discussion on the increased cost of transport which in 2008 was in excess of €23,500. It was felt that during this time of economic recession and with an overall reduction in sponsorship available that the club alone would be unable to meet a similar financial burden in 2009.

At a subsequent Bord na nOg meeting it was agreed that transport to all challenge games and championship games within a radius of 25 miles would be by car pool on a trial basis. To date this has been a tremendous success with many parents offering the use of their cars even further afield for games in Doon, Drumcullen, Kinnity and Ferbane.

Edenderry GAA is extremely grateful to all who have helped so far this year and hope that this continues for the remainder of the year. The number of bus journeys has been dramatically reduced as a result and the overall cost to the club will be considerably lower than previous years.

No doubt many parents are concerned and some have expressed this concern relating to the transport levy of €30. Questions have been raised over whether it is valid when we are not ordering as many buses as in previous years. Bord na nOg sought permission from the Executive committee to refund this levy given the vast reduction in the transport bill. However, as this levy was agreed at AGM it has been decided that we cannot amend this levy until a resolution to do so is passed at the next AGM.

Despite a rumour circulating at present, we have not refunded the levy to any team or certain members of any team. We will be unable to process any refund until after a decision is taken at the next AGM.
