At home to Newtownshandrum on Friday night last it was the visitors who got the better start. They led by 1 9 t o 0 6 after twenty five minutes and their goal made all the difference. We scored some good points but never came close to overtaking the North Cork side. On Tuesday week May 3rd Pairc na Bride will host a County Senior Hurling Championship game between Avondhu and Imokilly. All the Divisions taking part in the Co SHC this year are playing off on a Round Robin basis with the top two progressing to the next round of the c.ship. Fashion Show. Well done to Juvenile Club Chairman Pat Walsh and his helpers for taking to the Fashion Catwalks last Thursday night. The occasion was the Fashion Show in aid of Bishop O Brien NS Bartlemy and it was a gala event held in the Mart Centre at Corrin. Pat and Co. modelled the full range of Bride Rovers Gear which is on sale in the Club Shop. Well done to all our ‘models’, they did the Club Proud. However the Rovers lads rallied and replied with two late points to lead by one with the hour just played. Aghada rallied and scored a point to level things at 1-9 to the Rovers 12 points with the last kick of the game. Extra time followed and Aghada were to open the scoring with two early points but this was quickly cancelled out by the first of two goals from Alan O’ Keefe which ensured a victory for the Rovers on a final score line of 2-14 to 1-11. Next up for the Rovers is a highly fancied Castlemartyr side and a big improvement will be required if we are to progress in this championship. The game v Castlemartyr may be played over this weekend but nothing definite has been agreed at the time of writing this.

Our First Round SHC tie against Na Piarsaigh is fast approaching. The game is fixed for Felix Sarsfield Memorial Park Watergrasshill on Friday June 3rd.
Cork v Dublin.
Though Cork were defeated by Dublin in the last round of the Allianz Hurling League last Sunday not too many Cork supporters left crestfallen. The game meant little to Cork as regards relegation or qualification for the Final. The win for Dublin meant that they are in the league final for the first time since 1948. Our own Brian Murphy played with Cork while Tomas Brady impressed in defence with the Dubs. Interestingly both their grandfathers played together for Bride Rovers over 80 years ago. Brian’s grandfather Jim Murphy and his brother Bill were club stalwarts while Tomas’ grandfather was Patrick (Pad) Fitzgerald of Fort Richard, Bartlemy and later of Garrycaheragh, Ballynoe. Pad Fitz was one of the people who attended the inaugural meeting of the Bride Rovers GAA Club in the Bandroom in Bartlemy in the autumn of 1928. Pad played with the ‘old’ Bartlemy team and also with Bride Rovers.
GAA Congress.
As Cork County Board Pro Gerard Lane was part of the Cork Delegation to the GAA’s Annual Congress held in Mullingar last weekend. Liam O Neill was installed as President-Elect and will take over as GAA President from Christy Cooney at Congress in 2012.
