Senior Championship on Saturday night

 Our Senior Hurlers are back in Championship action on this Saturday night July 16th. We face Bishopstown in a Round Three tie at Riverstown at 7.30pm. The winners of this game progress to Round Four of the Senior Championship while the losers go into the dreaded Relegation against either Cloyne or Ballinhassig. Our two Senior Championship games to date saw us produce very different displays. In the opening round against Na Piarsaigh we were always chasing the match as we tried to recover from a very poor start. In contrast then the Erins Own game saw us lead from the start after a terrific opening quarter. We led for most of the game but lost by six points after a  barrage of scores from Erins Own in the last five minutes. Our true form must produce consistency and a much higher scoring return from all our forwards. Killeagh defeated Bishopstown on Monday night last scoring just 13 points, a very low scoring rate for Senior Hurling. The City side had a tally of just nine points but hit close on twenty wides during the hour. They have plenty well known, top-class hurlers with a big input from their winning minor and u21 teams of recent years. This will be the first time that Bride Rovers and Bishopstown have met in the Senior Championship so there is no ‘form’ line to go on. Our recent League games illustrate the variation in performances. We had a good win over the Barrs but then lost to a an understrength Sars side last week. Only a huge effort from each and every member of the side will be sufficient. This game is a huge challenge for us but it’s a game we can win -go for it lads.

JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE

We had games on Monday and Tuesday in Divs. Two and Three of the East Cork JHL In Div Three we were away to Castlelyons and in Div Three we were at home to Carrignavar. Details;

We played Carrignavar in Pairc na Bhride in the  J.H.L Div.2.

We started minus some of the Championship Team due to work and  Minor  coaching commitments that evening.

We played in  the first half with the aid of a stiff breeze and started brightly but a mix up  in the defence meant that we conceded a early goal. We soon recovered and following some good movements we led at half time by 2-8 to 1-5. In the second half we used the opportunity to move some players into different positions and also introduced 3 subs. Scores were hard to come by against the wind and we finished up winning by 2-12 to 1-12. We face a very tough quarter- final encounter v Sarsfields in the JAHC.

Scorers:      Dan Dooley  1-6, Terry Broderick 1-2, Gavin O’Flynn 0-1, Pat Walsh 0-1, Donal Ryan 0-1 and Alan O’Keeffe 0-1.

Castlelyons v Bride Rovers in J.H.L Div. 3

Due to a misunderstanding we fielded a weaker than expected team and were up against  very strong opposition on the night. We only scored 2-1 during the game and were soundly beaten.

Team: Frank Hogan, Willie O’Leary, Joe Delaney, Enda Collins, Brian Lahive, Patrick O’Driscoll, Brian Collins, Gavin O’Flynn, Ryan O’Connor, Stephen O’Leary, Michael Hogan, Niall Hogan, Pat Cotter, Damien Buckley and James Bermingham.

Also to the  Rovers Ladies team who captured Intermediate League honours on Monday against St. Vals. The same night in Rathcormac our u14 hurlers had a great 2   19 to  4  9 win over Mayfield in the c,ship.

Cork Hurlers

After a great start the Cork quest for 2011All Ireland Senior Hurling honours came to an end in Limerick on Saturday. When Galway got going they were in the same mood as Tipp on Sunday and they pulled away from Cork for an easy win.
