Bride Rovers GAA Notes

2010 Senior League Commences

The Red FM sponsored Conroy Cup Cork County Senior Hurling League commences next weekend. We reached two finals of this competition a few years back but unfortunately lost to Glen Rovers and Blackrock in two floodlit finals in Pairc Ui Rinn. The 2010 campaign gets underway this coming weekend. We have an away game against East Cork rivals Erins Own on Sunday morning at 11.30am. It’s a morning game on account of the very attractive Cork v Kilkenny game in the National Hurling League on Sunday afternoon. Last Sunday our senior hurlers travelled across the county bounds to the Abbeyside pitch in Dungarvan, Co. Waterford for a practice game. The opposition was provided by Ballygunner.

Score: Bride Rovers 1-13 Ballygunner 1-15.
Team & Scorers: D. Lane, S.Kearney, B.Walsh, T.Moloney, A.Collins (0-01), L.Forde, P.O’Driscoll, S.Ryan (0-2), M.Collins (0-3), K.Collins, M.Kearney, B.Johnson (0-05), S.Boyce, D.Ryan (1-0), D.Dooley (0-2).

Subs: P.Barry, O.Murphy, R.O’Connor, J.O’Connor, F.Collins, G.O’Flynn.

Junior Football League

We played two games in the Division 2 of the Garryvoe Hotel East Cork Junior Football League last weekend. We had mixed results, defeating Dungourney but losing to Glanmire. On Thursday night under lights in Dungourney we played the home side and won 2-7 to 1-4.  On Saturday afternoon then we were at home to Glanmire who beat us in the second round of the East Cork Junior Football League in 2009. They repeated this scene on Saturday winning by 2-9 to  1-8.  We’ve played 6 games so far in the Junior Football League, winning 4 and losing 2. To be sure of getting promotion back into Division 1 of the Junior Football League for next year, we’d need to win at least ten two of our remaining games.

Fitzgibbon Heartbreak for W.I.T.

Waterford Institute of Technology were defeated in the 2010 Fitzgibbon Cup in an extra time thriller in Galway on Saturday last. Barry Johnson was a member of the W.I.T. panel and for most of the final the Waterford College looked certain winners. N.U.I.G. forced a draw with an injury point and repeated the story in extra time.

Minor Hurling Championship

The draws for the 2010 East Cork Minor competition were made recently. We have been graded ‘A’ and are drawn against Carrignavar. This is a tough draw and with a limited panel of players, we will find it tough going in this grade. The panel has commenced training and will have competitive games shortly.
