Bride Rovers G.A.A. Club Notes

November 8, 2018

FOOTBALLERS WIN LEAGUE TITLE.

Bride Rovers Junior footballers travelled to Sallybrook on Friday night last to play the hosts Glanmire in the J2 League Final. This was for the Patrick O’ Mahony Cup and the last time this cup resided in the club was in 1996. Bride Rovers were led out on the night by captain Brinnie O’ Driscoll with a determination to finish off the year on a winning note.

From the throw in Bride Rovers were in control in most areas of the pitch with the mid field pairing of Sean Ryan and Michael Kearney particularly strong. Rovers opened the scoring with two early points from Jerome O’ Driscoll and Sean O’ Brien. This was closely followed by two scores from Glanmire to leave it all square with 10 minutes gone. From there on Bride Rovers took control of the first half and led on a score line of 1-07 to 0-02 points at the short whistle. The goal coming from a deflected Jerome O’ Driscoll effort. The work rate of Shane Kearney at wing back was particularly notable with two well taken points being his reward from numerous furrows into the opposition defence.

The introduction of Stephen Pratt, Donal Ryan, Georgie Johnson, Daniel Dooley and Alan Broderick around the half hour mark helped the Rovers remain in control during the second half and with the defence holding strong Bride Rovers claimed the Patrick O’ Mahony cup on a score line of 1-10 to 0-05 points.

The cup was presented after the game to Brinnie O’ Driscoll by Jerome O’ Brien from the East Cork Board. Well done to all involved in bringing home the silverware and closing the season on a winning note
