CLUB WEBSITE RELAUNCHED AND LIVE

Well it’s back! The Bride Rovers GAA Club Website is back after a major revamp. In this Technological Age modern means of communication are vital and in GAA Clubs where so much is happening on a daily and weekly basis a modern user-friendly website is vital. Last year we formed a Communications Sub Committee and the website came within the remit of this Committee. Over recent months a lot of work has gone into the redesigning of the site and we are grateful to Ger Lane for all the work he has put in to this project.  The new web address is www.briderovers.ie We hope to regularly update the website and feedback from members, players and supporters will be very important in the future.

MATCHES GALORE

We are only a week into New Time but it’s a case of Matches, More Matches, heaps of Matches as the Playing season is in full swing. We had four Hurling League games in the last week, two Senior, one Junior and one Minor. WE played Douglas and Killeagh in the Red FM County Senior Hurling League. We were at home to Shanballymore on the Junior Inter Divisional Hurling League and our Minors were in the Holy Ground to play Cobh.

Senior Hurling League.

SHL v Douglas

On Thursday night last our Senior Hurlers welcomed Douglas to Pairc Na Bríde for our fourth game of the RED FM Sponsored Cork County Senior Hurling League.
On the night the team performed poorly and suffered a 2-10 to 0-10 defeat. Our scorers on the night were Stephen Boyce with 4 points, Colm O’Keeffe with 3 points, Padraig Murphy scored 2 points & Daniel Dooley got 1 point.

Team: D.Fitzgerald, A.Collins, B.Walsh. S.Kearney, M.Kearney, B.Murphy, L.Forde, S.Boyce, J.Pratt, B.Johnson, P.Murphy, M.Collins, J.Mannix, D.Dooley, C.O’Keeffe. Subs Used: R.Cahill, T.Moloney.

SHL v Killeagh

On Monday night the Bride Rovers Senior Hurlers played Killeagh in Rathcormac in the RED FM Sponsored Cork County Senior Hurling League.

Playing aginst a strong wind in the opening the Rovers took the game to Killeagh, working very hard hooking & blocking and putting pressure on the Killeagh players in possession at every opportunity. Joe Deane opened Killeagh’s account with a pointed free which Barry Johnson replied with a pointed free also. Joe Deane continued to be a threat and added two more points before a brace from Barry Johnson had the sides level at 0-3 a piece. Richie Cahill put the Rovers in front and a great move involving Padraig Murphy & Daniel Dooley resulted in Michael Collins scoring a fine goal, Michael quickly added a point to extend the Rovers lead to five points. Two further pointed frees by Barry Johnson and a David Cahill point for Killeagh saw the Rovers lead at half time 1-07 to 0-04.

The second half was a closely fought affair, the Rovers added a further 1-05 to our half time tally. The goal coming from a long range shot by Richie Cahill while Barry Johnson, Padraig Murphy & Michael Collins scored the points. This was a very workmanlike performance by the Rovers after the disappointment of the two previous games where every member of the team worked hard.

Team: D.Fitzgerald, T.Moloney, B.Walsh. S.Kearney, A.Collins, B.Murphy, J.Pratt, S.Boyce, B.Johnson, R.Cahill, P.Murphy, M.Collins, J.Mannix, L.Forde, D.Dooley. Subs Used: S.Pratt.

Avondhu/Imokilly Junior Hurling League

Shanballymore visited us on 7th April to fulfill Round 3 of the League.

We had the opening score from Terry but then went out of the game and found ourselves behind by 0-4 to 0-1. In the 15 minutes before half-time we took control in the half-back line and we secured 3 further points to leave the half-time score at 0-4 each.

We opened brightly in the second half and with 15 minutes to go we led by 1-7 to 0-4. Shanballymore came back into the game and scored 1-2 and we now had a game on our hands . We were under a lot a pressure having lost Pat Walsh with a serious injury and thanks to Frankie in goal who brought off 3 wonderful saves we held them out.  Going into injury time we lead by 1-9 to 1-8 but they secured the equalising point to leave the final score at 1-9 each. This was a match that could have been won but we failed to deliver the killer blow when 1-3 ahead.

On the day we had a further 5 subs which were unused.
