Bride Rovers GAA Club notes and news round-up for the week.

JUNIORS AND MINORS GO OUT.
After the great win in the Senior Championship it was down to earth with a bang last week when both our Junior A and Minor Hurling teams lost their respective championship games.
Junior A Hurling v Sarsfields.
This game was played in Watergrasshill on Thursday night. We often hear the phrase ‘a game of two halves’ – well if ever this was apt it was in the ‘Hill on Thursday. Sarsfields entered the game as hot favourites having won the inaugural Imokilly/Avondhu Junior Hurling League a few days earlier. Sars had the breeze in the first half but play was even enough for the first quarter. We had points from Terry and Donal -two apiece to leave us just 0 6 to 0 4 behind -four of the Sars points coming from frees. In the second quarter we were outscored by 3  5 to just two points, our scores coming from Donal; and Alan O Keeffe. That left us in arrears by 3 11 to 0 6 at half time. We had a lot of possession in the first half but were unlucky on three or four occasions when scores looked probable.
It looked an impossible task at half time with Sars ahead and so it proved. A fourteen point gap was just too much. It didn’t upset our lads though and the transformation in the second half was something to behold. A point from a free by Owen Murphy was followed by a goal from Richie Cahill and we were back in the game big-time. With Joe Delaney, Pat Walsh and Gavin O Flynn thundering into the contest the second half turned out to be a rip roaring contest. A second goal from a free by Gavin Quill and a succession  of points from Owen Murphy and Stephen Walsh brought the margin down to five points with five minutes to go. Sars held out for 3 15 to 2  12 victory. It was a great effort from our lads. One is always disappointed at losing a match but it was marvellous to see the fierce pride and courage displayed in that second half.
Team; Gavin Quill, James Murphy, Joe Delaney, Tomas Kearney, Nevin O regan, Pat Walsh, Jim O Connor, Gavin O Flynn, Fergus Collins, Sean O Brien, Terry Broderick, Richard Cahill, Alan O Keeffe, Donal Ryan, Owen Murphy. Sub Stephen Walsh.
With 6 game played in Div 2 of the East Cork JHL we have 4 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw and two games to play.
Minor Hurling v Newcestown.
Indiscipline has cost us dearly in this years Co MHC. In our opening game v Donoughmore we had two players reciving straight red cards and in our second round game at home to Newcestown on Sunday last we lost another player in similar circumstances. It is a pity because the Minor Panel have put in a huge effort this year with over thirty training sessions to date. On Sunday we were beaten on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-03 but only for the heroics of Frank Hogan in goals we could have been defeated by a much bigger margin.
Senior Hurling Championship
Our next game in the Co Senior Hurling Championship will be on August 21st. At 4.15 on that date we will face CIT in the Quarter Final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh after they over came Erin’s Own in their 4th round encounter. The curtain raiser will be Ballymartle v Midleton or Douglas.
