Juniors Win Replay.

Our Junior A Hurling team made no mistake in their replay with Cloyne on Tuesday night in Carrigtwohill. In the drawn game Cloyne came from behind to force a draw but in the replay the roles were reversed. After a close encounter we were behind by 2  11 to  2  8 with a little over 7 minutes left. In that time  we added  a goal and three points and then held out amidst fierce pressure.

We started the game very well with three Daniel Dooley points before Cloyne got a brace in reply. With Donal Ryan, Alan O Keeffe , Daniel Dooley and Owen Murphy winning good ball we were well on top and led 04 to 0 2 after fifteen minutes - Owen scoring  our fourth point. Then Cloyne got a goal and a point to go ahead by 1  3 t o 0  4.  Our half back line of Nevin, Pat Walsh and Jim got in some powerful defending and up the middle Terry and Richie were very strong. Points from Terry and Daniel Dooley(free) tied the scores   in the 20th minute. Cloyne had two further points before Gavin Quill hit the net with a semi penalty shot to put us 1 6 to 1  5 ahead. Stout defending from Barry, James and Tomas kept Cloyne out as they tried hard for a second goal. Coming up to the break Cloyne went ahead with three unanswered points to leave us two points in arrears 1  8to  1  6 at half time. Jim O Connor gave a great pass to Daniel and he raised the white flag. Back came Clone with a pointed 65 to make it 1 9 to 1  7. A good movement involving Fergus Collins, Sean O Brien  and Alan ended with Richie gaoling to give us a  2  7 to  1  8 lead. Cloyne enjoyed their best period of dominance midway through the second half, adding 1 - 2 to go 2 10 to 2 7 ahead. In the 16th minute they opened up a four point gap before Owen Murphy hit a good point making it 2 11 to 2  8. Adrian Buckley and Stephen Walsh came on in the second half as Pat Walsh rallied the team coming into the last six minutes. A Daniel Dooley free, a beauty from  team captain Alan O Keeffe brought us to within a point 2  11 to  2  10 as we nervously looked at our watches! A draw looked likely until Daniel Dooley

Rattled the net to put us two points up - a dangerous lead. Now Cloyne came in waves seeking a winning goal but time and time again James Murphy and Tomas Kearney cleared their lines. Owen Murphy put us three ahead as the game went into injury time. In the fourth minute of added time Cloyne forced two 65's which were floated into the square but we held out for a great win by 3  11 to  2  11. It was a tough game ,coming so quickly after the draw. We have a bye into the quarter final where we will meet a very fancied Sars side. Well done lads on a great win.
