Bride Rovers GAA Club Notes For The Week.

November 8, 2018

Footballers get through the Back Door.

In the Holy Ground of last Friday night our Junior A Grade Football team got back to winning ways in the Championship. Having lost by the minimum margin to Carrignavar in the First round of the 2010 East Cork JAFC it was the Round 2 Route. In Cobh on Friday night we faced a tricky test in Russell Rovers. Just 8 weeks previously our B grade team of 2009 met Russell Rovers in the 2009 JBF final. This was our second team against the Shanagarry club’s first team. We had a resounding 4-8 to 2-2 win that day. That was an exceptionally strong B grade team – 6 of them lined out in the A Grade last week.

Bride Rovers dominated the first half and lead at half time on a score line of 0-09 points to 0-02. Russell Rovers began the second half with revived vigour and were rewarded after 10 minutes with a well taken goal. Bride Rovers were slow to respond and soon saw their lead cut to just one point with eight minutes remaining. At this stage Jerome O’ Driscoll had moved to mid field and Stephen Pratt had entered the game. The Rovers began to assert themselves again and kicked three points in the closing minutes to put the result beyond doubt at the final whistle. There were some strong performances during the game particularly from Sean Ryan, Jerome O’ Driscoll and Jason Pratt however the Rovers now meet last year’s beaten finalists Glenbower Rovers for a place in the quarter finals and know that as underdogs for this game only a top drawer performance will suffice if they are to stand any chance of progressing.
