Bride Rovers GAA Club Notes For The Week

November 8, 2018

First Silverware of 2010 Season.

At Lisgoold on Sunday night last the Club captured the first trophies of the year. The East Cork Scor Sinnsir Final was the occasion and though we had entries in just two Sections we were victorious in both. Cloyne and ourselves took to the boards in the Nuachleas Section. Cloyne had a Novelty Act based on the New Rules and changing times in the GAA. Our Act was ‘It’s A Miracle’ with John Arnold, Betty Cahill and Orla Arnold taking part. We were declared winners of the Novelty Act and as well as individual trophies we were also presented with the June Daly Memorial Cup. The late June Daly was a stalwart of Scor in East Cork for many years. A member of the Glanmire Club June was always present backstage at East Cork Scor events ensuring that all went smoothly.

The last event on the Clár was the Trath na gCeist. Here nine teams competed for the Title of East Cork  Champions. Our trio answering the questions were Pa O Driscoll, John Arnold and Daniel Lane. There was a high standard of answering and at the end of the 6 Mark Team, Questions ourselves and Glanmire were level. Our 3 tie breaker Questions were;

Name the Captain of the 2009 Cork All Ireland winning u21 Football Team?

Who completed the first Land Survey of Ireland?

Who is the Mayor of County Cork?

Luckily we knew the three answers , Colm O Neill, William Petty and Derry Canty and thus were declared the winners.

Our two First Places in the Novelty Act and the Question Time also ensured we captured the Felix Sarsfield  Cup for the Best Overall Club at Senior Level.

The East Cork winners and runners up go forward to the County Competition. As it stands the County Semi Final involving Imokilly Clubs is down for decision on February 7th but this may change. There is a County Scor Committee meeting on tonight Thursday January 28th and it is possible that there may just be a straight County Final on Sunday February 21st.

2009 Junior B Grade Football Final.

After the first meeting of the East Cork Board for 2010 last week a new date for the 2009 East Cork JBFC final has been suggested. The weekend of February 13th/14th now seems the likely date for the game between ourselves and Russell Rovers. No venue has been fixed yet.

Club Executive Meeting.

The second Club Executive meeting of the year takes place on next Monday night  February 1st in the Clubrooms.

Irish Wheelchair  Collection

The Annual Church Gate  Collection for the Irish Wheelchair Association which was postponed due to the bad weather will now take place at Bartlemy and Rathcormac Churches this weekend.
