Bride Rovers GAA Club notes & news round-up for the week.

Senior Championship on Saturday.

After a long wait our Senior Hurlers go into Championship action on this Saturday coming August 18th. We face Blackrock in Round Three of the competition at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It's a vital game as the winners go forward to face Sarsfields in the next round of the Championship. The losers will be in the Relegation Final against the losers of the Cloyne/ Glen Rovers game. We have played two Senior Championship games this season, losing by a point to Erins Own in May and going down by a margin of three points to Na Piarsaigh. Blackrock have been defeated by Ballymartle and Courcey Rovers. This is going to be a very tough assignment as Blackrock are a renowned championship team. Their form in May and June was poor but for their two games they were missing players due to exams and injuries and are in a much stronger position now. We had three SHL  wins over Bishopstown, Midleton and Cloyne in the last five weeks but League and Championship hurling are poles apart  as we well know. We have played Blackrock twice in recent years. In 2009 we won by 1 11 to 0  13 and in 2010 we were winners by 2 11 to 1  12, both were very narrow victories so there is very little between the sides. With a few injury worries going in to Saturdays game the players are very well aware of the huge task that confronts us. Past results count for nothing this week as it's all on the day that matters. We looked capable of winning our two opening Championship games but just fell short on both occasions. We scored 19 points against Erins Own but just 10 against Na Piarsaigh so it is obvious that we simply have to convert our possession into scores. We are under no illusion but that Saturdays game is one of the biggest challenges facing us since we came up to Senior Hurling in 2003. Go for it lads, the parish is behind ye.

The game is timed for 4.30 on Saturday with the Glen Rovers/ Cloyne game at 6.30- both in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

East Cork Junior Hurling League (Div 3)

We travelled to Shanagarry on Saturday evening last to take on the home side in Div 3 JHL game. It was a close contest but while we scored the goals the home Rovers got the point to edge out winners on a final scoreline of Russell Rovers 1-13 Bride Rovers 4-3
Team: -  . Mossie Dooley.  Richie Foley . Brian Collins. Niall Hogan  Brian Lahive . Barry Collins . Jamie Buckley . Mike Hogan  Damien Buckley . Gavin Quill  0-2 Alan O'Keeffe 2-0 . James Hogan Kieran Wolfe 1-0 . John O'Dowd 1-1 . Stephen O'Leary

MINOR FOOTBALL.

Our Minor Football Championship semi final v Ballinora has been fixed for Tuesday September the 4th. No venue has been named yet. On Thursday week, August the 23rd we are away to Donoughmore in the Minor Football league at 7pm.

Cork Hurlers Go Out.

At Croke park on Sunday last the Cork Senior Hurling team lost the All Ireland Semi Final to Galway by 22 points to 17.  While it was a disappointing result we must acknowledge the progress Cork have made under JBM. Inter  county Hurling teams have two main Competitions each year, the League and the Championship and if we thought last January that Cork would reach a Final and a Semi Final we'd have settled for it.  Cork are a team in transition and they have made great progress this season. Well done to all involved especially  Brian Murphy.

Cork v Donegal Tickets.

A Special Ticket offer is available for the Cork V Donegal All Ireland Semi Final on Sunday week. Tickets in Sections 316 to 318 of the Davin Stand which are normally priced at €40 are available for just €10 each to GAA Club members. The closing date for ordering these tickets is 12 noon on this Friday August 17th. Contact Club Runai Liam Barry or the Club Phone with your order.
