Bride Rovers GAA Club notes & news round-up for the week.

November 8, 2018

Junior Football Championship.

Our Junior Football Team are billed to play East Cork Champions Glenbower Rovers in Round Three of the East Cork Championship on this Thursday night. Unfortunately a cloud hangs over the fixture. At the time of writing we are not sure if we will be unable to fulfil the fixture due to an unprecedented spate of injuries. We defeated Aghada in the first round but since then seven players have suffered serious injuries and are unable to play. The upcoming Leaving Cert Exams may deprive us of two more players. A decision was to have been made on Tuesday night as to whether we will be able to field a team or not. The game is fixed for 7.30pm in Ballynoe on Thursday night May 3rd.

GAMES IN PAIRC NA BRIDE.

On last Saturday night Shanballymore defeated Ballinure in the first round of the Co. JBFC before a very small crowd. On this coming Saturday night the pitch hosts a Co Board game. At 7pm Glanmire will take on Kildorrery in the first round of the County Intermediate Football Championship. All members that are available to help out are asked to be at the grounds at 6pm.

Car Boot Sale.

Thanks to all who helped out at the car Boot sale last Sunday and with the preparation on Saturday. The next Car Boot Sale in Rathcormac is on Sunday May 27th

MINOR HURLING.

We had a very quiet week on the playing fields with the Minor Hurlers the only team in action. They travelled to Kilworth to take on the home side in a practise game. Goals win games and Kilworths ability to raise green flags was vital and they won on a scoreline of Kilworth 2  11 Bride Rovers   0  7.

Team. Frank Hogan, Jacob Macak, Padraig Noonan, Sean Cotter, Cian O Connor, Jack Kearney, David Quinn, Tadhg O Sullivan, Liam O Leary, William Finnegan, Stephen O Leary, Colm Power, Shane Walsh, Darren Moore. Subs Colm Howard, Cian Howard, Jamie Buckley & Ryan Prendergast.

We have entered a Minor team in the Hurling Non Exam Players league. Numbers will be tight but we will try and fulfil the fixtures over the next two months.

WEBSITE.

The reaction to the Club Website has been great. To get all the latest news, results and fixture just go to www.briderovers.ie We urge all club members and friend that have relations abroad to let them know that they can keep up to date with the Club on the website.

WELL DONE CORK.

Well done to the Cork Senior Footballers on their 3 in a row of NFL Division 1 Titles. They had a great win over mayo in Croke Park. Ger Lane as County Board Vice chairman is the Senior Footballers Liason officer and Daniel Lane is part of the backroom team.

On next Sunday all roads will lead to Thurles for the Allianz National Hurling League Final . Old rivals Cork and Kilkenny will square up for the League title. Cork haven’t won the national Hurling League since defeating Wexford in a three game marathon in Semple Stadium in 1998.  League and All Ireland Titles are three a penny in Kilkenny but they are always out to win more and more. We hope that Brian Murphy will be able to take his place on the team to face the Noresiders in what is certain to be a keenly contested game. A reminder that Tickets for the game a\re on sale at Pairc UI Rinn on this Thursday night between 6 and 7pm.

Congrats Irene.

At the GAA Central Council Meeting in Croke Park on Saturday last new GAA President Liam O Neill announced his new National Committees to serve from 2012 until 2015.  Congrats to Irene Hogan who has been appointed to the National Child Welfare and Protection Committee.
