Bride Rovers GAA Club notes & news round-up for the week.

November 8, 2018

County Junior B Football on Saturday.

On this coming Saturday we are fixed to play the Castletownroche side Abbey Rovers in the first round of the County Junior B grade Football championship. This will be our first game in the competition while Abbey Rovers have had the benefit of a preliminary round game, losing to Duhallow side St. Johns. In 2013 we defeated Lough Rovers in the first round of this competition before losing to Araglen in the next round.

Our preparation this year has not been the best. We have struggled to field a team and have only played a handful of games in the East Cork League.  We also have a few players injured which is a major cause for concern. The game if fixed for Fermoy at 4 o clock on Saturday but at the time of writing it seems as though this may be changed because of a double fixture clash in  Fermoy.

RED FM Co. SHL.

On Saturday last we played South East side Ballymartle in the RED FM Co SH League. It was a game dominated by both defences where scores were hard to come by. In the end we lost by just a single point ; Ballymartle 1-12 to Bride Rovers 1-11

Team: D.Fitzgerald, R. Prendergast, B. Walsh, D. Lenihan, D. Burke, B. Murphy, M.Liddane, B. Johnson, M. Kearney, C. O' Connor, M. Collins, B. Murphy, O. Murphy, J. Mannix, D. Dooley

Rebel Og  County Minor Hurling League.

On Thursday last May the 1st we played our fifth game in our section of the County Minor A grade Hurling League when Erins Own were the visitors to Pairc na  Bride

It was a high scoring contest producing  seven goals and twenty six points. Seldom in a hurling game does a team score 4  12 and lose but that’s what happened!  Erins scored 3 16 to win by a point.

Team: D. Moore, J. Fitzgerald, R. Prendergast, J. Tobin, J. O Connor, S. Walsh, C. Howard, C. O Connor, S. O' Connor, J. Barry, DJ Cahill, C. O' Grady, D. Browne, W. Finnegan, J. O' Keeffe . We have three wins and two defeats in the League so it all depends on other results to decide the winning team in the group.

SCRAP METAL COLLECTION

As part of our ongoing fundraising campaign  the Bride Rovers Club will be organising a variety of events during the year. Raising finance at present is not an easy task but the people of the parish have always supported the GAA Club and long may this continue. We have plans for a major new all-weather facility in Pairc na Bride. To this end we applied for Funding from the Department of Sport and were successful in our application. However we have a shortfall in finances between the expected Grant and the cost of the project. In recent months our Finance and Development Sub- Committee have looked at various fund raising options. A major event is being planned for the autumn but other activities will go ahead in the meantime. The weekly Club Lotto continues to bring finance in for the Club but this is mainly for the day to day running of the Club so other income sources are always been explored.   A few years ago we had a very successful Scrap Collection in the parish and on Saturday two weeks,  May the 24th we will have a similar collection. We are aware of the fact that a huge amount of material was gathered three years ago but we know that there is still a lot of scrap out there.  All types of metal will be accepted as well as old car, tractor and lorry batteries. When we say 'all types of metal'  we mean just that -anything from drink cans to combine harvesters!  Old copper cylinders and piping, bicycles, galavanised sheeting, cars, farm machinery, old wheels, unused utensils are all welcome. We will have at least two 'depots' available on the day and for a few days before hand. If you can bring the scrap to these depots it will be much appreciated but if transport of the material is a problem let us know and we can arrange collection. Please spread the  message to neighbours, friends and relations about this Scrap Collection as every little helps.

For further details and information please contact any of the following numbers; 087 9538077 ,  086 8552537, 086 8193186, 086 8453364.

When you ring any of these numbers you can make suitable arrangements for the delivery and or collection of the scrap metal. Bride Rovers Club really appreciates the ongoing support of the community both in supporting all our teams and helping with the ongoing development of our facilities.  Scrap will be accepted from everyone and anyone and even if you are outside the parish and have material that you want removed please contact any of these numbers for prompt attention.
