Minor Footballers get season underway.

At Cloyne on Saturday afternoon last our 2012 playing season got underway. The opening contest for the year was a County Minor Football League game.  Played in heavy underfoot conditions the game was a fairly even affair except on the scoreboard. Cloyne hit three wides over the hour while we kicked seven. On the scoring front Cloyne  were 1  6 to o  2 ahead at half time. Amazingly both teams scored a goal and a point in the second half to leave the home side winners by 2  7 to  1  3. Cian O Connor got our first point while Daren Moore kicked a second from a free. In the second half Sean Cotter raised a green flag. David Quinn got our last point. We were short a few players, our minor panel is very tight on numbers so we need every player. Overall it was a good start to the new playing season. We have a very enthusiastic group of Minors so we hope to have at least twenty games for these lads. Many of course will also be playing at u 16, u 21 and Junior Level so hopefully all players will get adequate games.

Team v  Cloyne;  Frank Hogan, Eoin Howard, Cian O Connor, Jack Kearney, Tadhg O Sullivan, Adrian Buckley, William Finnegan, David Quinn, Sean Cotter, Stephen O Leary, Jamie Buckley, Padraig Noonan, Liam O Leary, Darren Moore.

Our next game in this competition is a home game v Russell Rovers on Saturday week, February 19th at 2 o clock, probably in Pynes. Meanwhile training continues and players will be informed of details.

Mixed Luck in Scor.

The first of the County Semi Finals in the Scor Sinnseair  took place in Lisgoold on Sunday night last. We had a triple involvement in Solo Singing, Recitation, and Novelty Act. We had just one success however when “Cured”, our  Novelty Act got through to the County Final. John Power gave a typcal powerful rendition of ‘ Spancil Hill’ and the Bishops Sermon from John B. Keanes “The Field” was well received in the Recitation section.  The cast of Cured is John Power, John Arnold, William O Leary, Jonathon Brackett and John Arnold. Other East Cork clubs to qualify for the County Final in Ovens on Saturday February 25th were Cobh, Fr. O Neills, Glenville and Killeagh. Best of luck to our young competitors who take  part in the Scor na bPaisti quarter finals in Lisgoold this weekend.

Well represented in the Orchard County.

National League Champions Cork opened their 2012 campaign with a long trip to Armagh last Sunday. The game ended in a draw after a topsy-turvy contest. Not many from down south made the long trip but our parish and club were well represented. County Board Vice Chairman Gerard Lane and Daniel were involved as part of the Leesiders ‘backroom team’ and Super Supporter Jim,’Jimbob’ O Donovan and his wife Deirdre also made the long journey to the Orchard County. Cork have Ulster opposition again this weekend when the Men from the Mournes come South.
