On The Road Again For 2012

We held our first Executive Meeting of the year on Monday January the 9th with a good attendance present. The Chairman James Bermingham welcomed all members and looking forward to the year ahead wished all a good season on and off the playing fields. Club Committees for 2012 were announced as follows.

DEVELOPMENT; Tom Kearney, James Bermingham, Seamus Buckley, Mossie O Sullivan, Denis Ahern and John Murphy.

FINANCE; Dan Quill, James Bermingham, Liam Barry, Pat Walsh and Richie O Regan.

GROUNDS; John Murphy, John Arnold, Pat O Connor, Paudie Murphy, Tom Mulcahy, Denis Ahern, Dan Quill.

PR/IT; Gerard Lane, William O Leary, Brian Arnold, Daniel Lane, Liam Barry, John Arnold.

FIRST AID; Jerome O Driscoll, Kathleen Kearney, Orla Murphy-Dorgan, Mike Carey.

GAA Social Initiative Liaison; Mossie O Sullivan

A long discussion took place on the feasibility of having a Games Development Committee. It was felt that with so many teams in the Club an overall policy group needed to be in place to coordinate the activities of team coaches and ensure long-term aims and goals were set, evaluated and changed and modified as was deemed necessary.  Billy Finnegan and Denis Ahern were appointed to act as a steering committee to ensure that a widely based Games Devp. Committee is put in place within the Club.

Football

As a result of the deliberations of the Football Committee set up at the Club AGM in December it was agreed to take part in the East Cork Junior A Grade Football Championship for 2012. We are also in favour of a smaller JFL in East Cork if possible.

Jack is Back

The big news on the Hurling front is that Jack Russell is back as team Coach for the Senior Hurling team for 2012. Nine years ago Jack led us to victory in the Cork Co IHC so we hope that this coming season will bring success once more. It was great to see over 30 players at training on Sunday last January the 8th.

Finance

Treasurer Dan Quill gave the update on our Finances. He thanked the Munster Council for the Development Grant and paid tribute to Co. Board Officer Diarmuid Gowen for his work on our behalf. He stressed the importance of the Weekly Club Lotto in maintaining the income stream for the Club. The tickets are just €2 per week or €90 for the Annual Ticket.

Minor Selectors for 2012

Hurling; Barry Hazlewood, Barry Murphy and Alan Fitzgerald

Football; Damien Buckley, Paul Dee and Alan Fitzgerald

Team Officials; Seamus Buckley & John Arnold.

Ladies Club Calendar.

The Bride Rovers Ladies Football and Camogie Clubs had a magnificent year in 2011 and have produced a lovely 2012 Calendar which is now on sale. The Clubs Victory Social is being held later in January.

Best Of Luck Teddy

Cork 1990 dual All Ireland winner Teddy McCarthy of Sars has a new job for 2012.  Teddy has been appointed as Senior Hurling coach to the Laois team. The Midlanders have threatened to make a breakthrough on several occasions over the last twenty years but no trophies have been won. It is now 97 years since Laois won their only All Ireland Senior Hurling Title. That was in 1915 when Bartlemy born Pat Lee trained the Midlanders to a Final victory over his native County of Cork. At that time Pat Lee was Station Master in Ballybrophy, Co. Laois.
