Bride Rovers GAA Club notes & news round-up for the week.

Junior Hurlers Defeated.

Our Junior Hurling team travelled to Ballyhooley on Sunday last to take on the Glanworth hurling team Harbour Rovers in the County JHL. Despite the heavy rain overnight the pitch was in good condition. We had two changes from the team that defeated St. Itas in the East Cork League Final. Alan O Keeffe and Ryan O Connor replaced Mike Hogan and Joe Delaney.

Harbour Rovers started  well but it was not until the tenth minute that they had their first score, a point from a free. Two similar scores followed before Richie Cahill opened our account with a good point. As the rain came down conditions for hurling became difficult. Both defences were on top and scores were hard to come by. Riche had another point in the 20th minute to leave it  0  5 to  0  2 in favour of Harbour Rovers. A great point from Alan O Keeffe just before the break left it 0 5 to 0 3 in favour of the North Cork side. We needed a good start to the second half but it just didn’t happen. Harbour Rovers got on top and went further ahead with 4 points to lead by 0  9 to  0  3. Then the game changed.  A great  long distance free from Gavin Quill was finished to the net by Terry Broderick. From the puckout Owen Murphy sent over a super point and now there was only three points in it with four minutes left. We attacked again but didn’t score. Harbour Rovers got the sliotar up-field and sent over an insurance point to win by a margin of four points 0  11 to  1  4. It was a disappointing result  but we cant complain as Harbour Rovers were the better team on the day. They go forward to the Co. League Semi Final and we wish them all the best. For our Junior Hurlers they can look back with pride on the year in which they gave great displays in both League and Championship.

SCRAP COLLECTION.
The Scrap metal collection over the last two months has been a great success. We are still taking all kinds of metal from clothes hangers to combine harvesters. If you can bring the scrap to our collection points all the better but if you need to have it be collected this can be arranged. Ring Terry 087 930000 or James at  086 8350741. People have asked if we take ‘small’ scrap like drink and food cans … once it is metal we’ll be glad of it!
