U 21 Hurlers Lose Final.

At Ballynoe on Sunday morning last our u21 hurlers took on Lisgoold in the East Cork 12 a side U 21 Hurling Championship Final. This was to have been a League style Championship but as both ourselves and Lisgoold had defeated Sarsfields B this game was the Final of the Competition.  We started well with a succession of points from Jason Mannix, Daniel Dooley and Owen Murphy. A goal from Lisgoold brought them back into contention. We lead by 0 7 to 1  1 after fifteen minutes but a second Lisgoold goal saw them level. We took the lead again with a point from Daniel Dooley. Lisgoold then really got on top and went 2  5 to 0  8 ahead. Worst was to come as on the stroke of half time we conceded a third goal and so at the break we were behind by 3  5 to  0  8. Try as our forwards did we just couldn’t get through for a goal which we badly needed. The second half was very even in terms of play but we were outscored by 7 points to 5. This left Lisgoold winners on a final scoreline  of 3   12 to  0  13. A very disappointing result after a lot of work was put in by the players and Brian and Barry.

Team; Frank Hogan, Barry Collins, Fergus Collins,  Gerard Healy, Stephen Boyce, Ryan O Connor, Jason Pratt, Stephen O Leary, Owen Murphy,  Liam O Leary, Jason Mannix,  Daniel Dooley.

Subs; Daniel lane, Adrian Buckley, Damien Buckley.

County Junior Hurling League on Sunday.

On Sunday next October 23rd our Division 2 junior Hurling team are involved in a Play Off in the Co JHL. As winners of the East Cork Division 2 League Title we are due to meet the Avondhu winners for a place in the County Junior Hurling league Semi Final. Harbour Rovers of Glanworth are the North Cork winners and the game is down for decision at 12 noon in Ballyhooley. This is the Harbour Rovers  Club first team so they will be a very strong side. They have had great success at Minor and u21 hurling in the Avondhu Division in recent years so they will enter the contest as hot favourites. Thanks to O Coileains Bar for Sponsorship of the u21 team.

Well Done Girls.

Congratulations to the Intermediate Ladies Football team on their brilliant Munster Final win at Ballyagran last Sunday. They came from behind to defeat St. Ailbhes of Caherconlish, Limerick in a thrilling game. This was a great team performance from a never say die team. A Munster Championship Club Trophy was back in the Parish on Sunday night for the first time since we won the Intermediate Hurling title in 2004. Back then our hurlers had no All Ireland series to compete in but the girls have. On the first weekend of November they will be away to the Leinster Champions. Stabannon Parnells of Co. Louth are through to the Leinster Final. They are actually the winners of the Louth Senior Championship but compete in the Leinster Intermediate C. Ship -last year they also reached the Leinster Final. This week end the second semi final takes place between Milltown of Co. Westmeath and Oldcastle Co. Meath. So a trip to Louth, Meath or Westmeath is in the offing for early November.

Well Done u11’s.

Well done to our Club u11 hurling team on winning the Jerard Kenny Memorial Trophy in Pairc na Bride on Saturday last. The Tournament commemorates the late who died tragically 10 years ago. Jerard was on the County U12 winning team in 2000.

SCRAP COLLECTION.
The Scrap metal collection over the last seven weeks has been a great success. We are still taking all kinds of metal from clothes hangers to combine harvesters. If you can bring the scrap to our collection points all the better but if you need to have it be collected this can be arranged. Ring Terry 087 930000 or James at  086 8350741 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              086 8350741      end_of_the_skype_highlighting. People have asked if we take ‘small’ scrap like drink and food cans … once it is metal we’ll be glad of it!

Best Wishes to the Saints.

Best of luck to St. Catherines who ar playing the County u21 B hurling c.ship Final this weekend. Castlelyons won the inaugural playing of this competition in 2010 so it would be great to see the Cup stay in Imokilly for another year. Well done also to the Fermoy Minor Hurlers on reaching the Co. Final.
