Junior Camogie

The Junior camogie team played a challenge game against Castlemagner in Castlemagner. After an eventful journey, we played on a pitch at Ballyhass Lakes. On a beautiful summer’s evening, the team took to the field in a determinant mood and soon were in control all over the field. All our forwards got on the scoreboard, getting some great points from play. Grace Kearney and Jenny Barry were extremely accurate from frees. The backs marked tightly and worked diligently to clear our lines and only conceeded 1 point. We lead at half time by 3.07 to 0.01. Castlemagner re-organised their team and put in a stronger challenge for the second half. Our defence was under pressure for a lot of the half and we conceeded two 21 metre frees, both of which they scored goals from. They also won a penalty with about 10mins to go. However, Irene made a fantastic save and cleared the danger. Our forwards were under pressure to hold onto possession and shot a few wides. In saying this, we tagged on two points to our first half score. Over all it was a good performance and a great team effort.

Team – I.Hogan, L.Finnegan, B.Forde, E.Cashman, C.Noonan, S.Walsh, I.Dorgan, E.Ahern, J.Barry, J.Cahill, G.Kearney, C.O’Flynn, A.O’Flynn, S.O’Driscoll, C.Vaughan, I.Bloemhoff.

On June 14th, we played a challenge game against Youghal, in Youghal. Unfortunately, weather conditions were ideal. Although lining out with a few of our first-team players missing, we still had a full team. Youghal started well and were in control of the first half. Our defence were under immense pressure for most of the half. While Youghal had a lot of wides, mainly due to our tackling and blocking, they still managed to score 1.06 in comparison to our score of 1.03. In the second, with the help of the wind, we came more into the game. Our half back line and mid-field got on top of their markers and we added 1.03 to our score. We only conceeded 1 point in that same period of play. Our work ethic and fitness was very pleasing. It was a very enjoyable match overall. Our thanks to Youghal, who were very helpful in arranging the match.

Final score – Bride Rovers (2.06) , Youghal (1.07)

U12 Ladies Football & Camogie

East Cork U12 Ladies Football League Semi-Final, Tuesday, June 14th.

Bride Rovers 6-7 Watergrasshill 2-4.

Bride Rovers U12 girls qualified for a league final when they overcame Watergrasshill at Rathcormac on Tuesday, June 14th. This game was close until well into the second half, with the Rovers only leading by 4 points at half-time. A few positional switches worked well, as did the substitutes introduced, and Rovers got the scores to increase the margin in the second half.

East Cork U12 Ladies Football League Final, Sunday, June 19th.

Bride Rovers 2-3 St Colmans 0-2.

Bride Rovers U12 girls emerged as league final winners after a great battle with St Colmans at Lisgoold pitch (which was in perfect condition incidentally and many thanks to Lisgoold) last Sunday night. The difference between the 2 sides was probably down to our goalkeeper and backs who remarkably only conceded 2 points over the whole game. This match was hard-fought and we only led by two points with 10 minutes or so to go, but got the crucial scores in the closing stages to secure the win. Many of our players rose to this occasion and put in their best performances of the season so far. Without this, I’m not sure that we would have won. Credit must go to St Colmans for their part also and it’s likely we will face them in competition later in the year again. Thanks also to the East Cork board and referee Maurice Mulcahy.

Our U12s will continue to play friendly games throughout the summer months. We now have quite a large panel and it is important to get game time for everyone on it, especially those players that have joined in recent weeks.
