Minor Football

Saturday, September 29th
Bride Rovers 2-16 Beara 2-4

Our minor footballers were probably unfancied by many to come out on top in our county quarter final against Beara, especially after the East Cork final defeat the previous weekend, but they bounced back from that in some style when recording a 12 point win over Beara in Ballingeary. Beara actually started better than us but 2 quick goals from Grace Culloty (coming off the bench) and Jennifer Cahill (a very well-taken penalty) got us back on terms and we never looked back. Our backs (Erin, Margaret, Claire, Trish, Lauren, Aoife) and goalie Aine Cashman grew massively in confidence as the game went on, conceding only one goal in the whole second half, which was a tremendous achievement. Jennifer Barry showed why she is on the bus to Croke Park with the Cork seniors with a towering game at mid-field which was the platform for much of our better play. Our forwards’ scoring rate and work rate was extremely good, including Katie Connor, Karen Sheehan and Meg Kelliher who all played after recent injuries and illness. Sheila Walsh, Elaine Culloty and Laura Pratt all worked tirelessly also and got some vital scores throughout the game.

Panel : Aine Cashman, Margaret Kearney, Claire Murphy, Erin O’Keeffe, Lauren Friel, Trish O’Sullivan, Aoife O’Riordan, Jen Barry (0-4), Jen Cahill (1-4), Karen Sheehan, Katie Connor, Meg Kelliher (0-2) , Elaine Culloty (0-4), Sheila Walsh (0-1), Laura Pratt, Grace Culloty (1-1).

U14 Football

Wednesday, September 26th

Our U14 football season ended with a defeat against neighbours Fermoy in the East Cork A championship final. Fermoy are U14 A county champions this year and showed why in this final. Nevertheless, our girls were quite competitive for long periods and did not get the scores that our possession merited. Thanks to mentors Vincent, John A, Emma and secretary Valerie for all the efforts during the year. Thanks also to all the girls who trained and played for Bride Rovers U14s in 2012.

U12 Camogie

Well done to our U12 camogie players who enjoyed a great win over St Catherines last Saturday, September 29th.

Best of luck from everyone at Bride Rovers Ladies Football and Camogie Club to Eleanor Ahern, Grace Kearney and Jennifer Barry who are on the Cork Senior panel who take on Kerry in the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park on Sunday, October 7th. There is tremendous interest at the club in this match and places on the supporters bus were rapidly sold out this year and let’s hope for a tremendous final.

The next clothes collection is on Friday, October 12th at Rathcormac Community Hall.

Finally, I just got the news that we have been selected as the Cork Ladies Football club of the month. This is a tremendous honour for all of us. Many thanks to Catherine and Claire Murphy who prepared our submission.
