Senior Ladies Football

Bride Rovers 2-14       Gabriel Rangers 3-13

Bride Rovers Senior Ladies Footballers just failed in their first senior final on Sunday, May 6th against Gabriel Rangers at Castletownkinneigh. The first half proved our undoing when we conceded 2-11 to a West Cork side driven forward relentlessly by the influential Nollaig Cleary. However, a Grace Kearney goal just before half-time gave us some hope for the second half. While we trailed by 11 points, we did have the advantage of a strong wind for the second period.

After the resumption we had much the better of affairs and pushed back the opposition continuously, closing the gap to 3 points with 10 minutes remaining. Jennifer Barry had switched to mid-field at this point and her surging runs into the opposition half were instrumental in setting up many scores, including a second Grace Kearney goal. However, a breakaway goal from Gabriel Rangers deflated us and stretched the lead to 6 points again and while we scored a number of points to close the gap to a mere 2 points at the final whistle, we just came up short. All credit to the Rovers senior ladies who demonstrated their spirit and never-say-die attitude yet again and they can look forward to the senior championship with confidence after a strong league showing.

Junior Ladies Football

Bride Rovers 1-8         Mayfield 0-2

History of sorts was made on Monday, May 7th when a second Bride Rovers adult team were victorious in a match for the first time. The fixture was an East Cork Junior C Championship quarter final against Mayfield where a strong first half performance, where we led 1-5 to 0-1 at half-time, put down the groundwork for our win. Our Junior panel has a number of players who are no strangers to success over the years with our first team and this experience is invaluable but the new and returning players continue to improve and are making a bigger contribution with every game. Our outings in the league definitely stood to us especially as we had played some very strong sides on our travels. Congratulations to all the players on the panel and we now look forward to a semi-final against our neighbours,Fermoy.
