Junior Camogie

The Junior Camogie Team played the County Semi Final in Ballynoe on Sunday morning. It was dry but windy.Due to illness and injuries, changes had to be made to the starting team before the throw in.We played against the wind in the first half. From the outset  our girls set the standard. Some early points settled the team. The defence held strong and the midfield players and forwards moved the ball very well.We went into half time leading 1.5 to 3 points.

Castlelyons started strong in the second half, but our backs were magnificent, getting great ball out of defence. Our forwards got on top and the scores came.Castlelyons failed to score in the second half and the game ended 3.8 to 3points.This was a brilliant team perfofmance by the Bride Rovers girls. U12 Ladies Football

Saturday, September 17th .

Bride Rovers 2-3      Passage 3-2

Our U12s suffered a heart-breaking defeat to Passage in the County Final at an excellently-prepared Mayfield pitch on Saturday, September 17th . We started very brightly and could have been quite a few scores in front in the early stages but unfortunately we missed some chances that we would rue later in the game. At half-time, the teams were level at 1-4 each, our scores coming from Taylor Parle (goal) and a point from Grace Culloty, and it was all to play for in the second half. Uncharacteristically, however, we conceded 2 further goals in quick succession early in the second half and  we faced an uphill battle thereafter. Despite this huge setback, we battled back with points from Grace Culloty and Katy Quirke to keep us in touch and a great goal from Katy Quirke got us right back into the game. Passage scored one last point to leave two between the teams and while we tried desperately hard for a winning goal, it was not to be. We would like to congratulate Passage on their win and to thank Mayfield for all their excellent work to prepare everything for the final. Referee AJ Cronin is also to be commended for his fine handling of this match. Commiserations to our group of players who fought hard to reach this final. We are all proud of them and we can be sure they will bounce back from this.

Finally, thanks to the large group of supporters who travelled to Mayfield to support us and also to the very generous sponsors in the parish, who contributed to the training fund for the U12 panel in the lead up to the final. These include Fitzy’s, Flamingo Redz, Marion’s Hair Studio, Spar Rathcormac and parents and friends of the club. Special thanks to Claire O Flynn who organised the gear for the final for the panel of players.

The U12 season is not done with yet and we now look forward to the East Cork Championship where we face St Colmans in the semi-final.
