Intermediate Football

Victory at Munster 7’s

Congrats to the twelve girls that travelled to Clonakilty on Saturday last to take part in the Munster 7’s blitz.  One could be mistaken for thinking this was a winter blitz as the weather was anything but summery but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the rovers girls!  This was the clubs first time taking part in this provincial competition where we played in the intermediate grade. The girls played five group games against Clasmore (Waterford), Comeragh (Tipperary), Nemo Rangers (Cork), Emmets (Kerry) and St. Vals (Cork).  We did very well in our group stages and qualified for the shield final with two teams that beat us going into the Cup Final.  Our opponents were to be Nemo in the final who had already beaten us by a goal in the group stages.  With tired and wet bodies by 3.15pm on Saturday afternoon it took great resilience from the girls to put in a great display in the first half while playing with the wind to give us a bit of a cushion going into the final ten minutes of football.  As is true of this bunch for many years heart and determination were again to the fore when they defeated Nemo by just a point.  Well done to all the girls on a great day of football and a sweet victory in the final.  Thanks to Betty for her organisational skills on the line and also to our Liam, our team mascot.

The intermediate team progressed to the Division 2 league final with a win over Eire Og on Thursday 23rd of June. This was a keenly fought battle and it took the rovers girls until the last 10 minutes to finally pull away from this strong Eire Og side.  With only a point between the sides at half time all was to play for on a lovely sunny evening in Rathcormac.  Bride Rovers upped the tempo in the second half and even though they had most of the possession in this half the girls found scores hard to come by. Bride Rovers won on a scoreline of 2.9 to 1.6.  This was the second time this year that the sides have met and it is fair to say that a healthy rivalry has now been established between the two sides which bodes well for another close encounter when these two sides meet in round one of the county championship.  Eire Og will be going for third time lucky to record a victory but without a doubt the Rovers girls will have something to say about that!

We would like to wish a speedy recovery to all our injured players at the moment and hope to see them donning the Rovers jersey soon as we enter the business end of the season.

All involved with the Intermediate team would like to wish Colette Hogan the best of luck on her big day on Friday July 1st and wish herself and Noel every happiness in their future together. 

Our U12 Camogie panel travelled to Caherlag for the latest in the series of U12 cluster blitzes under the Go-Games structure. All reports were that this blitz was thoroughly enjoyed and many thanks to Erins Own for hosting it.

2011 Summer Camp

The summer camp will be held from July 25th to July 29th this year. The afternoons, 1:30pm to 4:30pm, are set aside for the girls. All girls are invited and encouraged to attend this very enjoyable activity. Please return application forms and money to trainers or directly to Claire O Flynn as soon as possible.
