Bride Rovers ladies Football&Camogie club

Briderovers 3-4              Fermoy  4 -12

Our U21 girls lost to  Fermoy in the county Final at the weekend and credit to the Fermoy girls who were superb on the day .Fermoy opened the scoring with a point and the Rovers responded soon after with a well taken goal by Jennifer Cahill and it looked like this was to be a close match as indeed it was for the first half., the Rovers girls ahead by two points at the half time interval by 2-2 to 6pts .Sinead and Grace scoring a point each and Grace scoring a class goal just before the interval. Fermoy were out of the traps quicker in the second half and scored a goal  within two minutes and  a second one five minutes later .and the Rovers heads went down and Fermoy pulled away from us scoring a brace of points .Our girls failed to register a score for twenty minutes of the second half and we managed to score 1-2 within five  minutes a point each from Jennifer C and Martha and a goal from Grace .Sinead Walsh was going through on goal when she went over on her ankle with about eight minutes to go and had to leave the field of play and we wish her a speedy recovery., All 19 girls on the panel played some part in this final and  there was some great individual performances on the day .Fermoy scored 4 goals but were it not for the excellent keeping of our goalkeeper Eadaoin they would have scored a lot more. This is a very young team only loosing Avelina for next year .Credit must go to John O Dowd who persisted in getting a team together for the competition .We were struggling to get numbers for our first game against Mallow in the quarter final and one would never have dreamed that we would have been in a County Final a few weeks later .On behalf of everyone thanks to John for all his work and commitment to the girls and thanks to Barry who came on board also to help out. Also  thanks to Castlelyons Gaa for the use of their pitch and to Catherine and Paul Murphy who organised everything for both teams. The Rovers girls went back for well deserved food to our main sponsors O Coileans after the match  our  thanks to Liam and all  the staff .
