Gaelic for mothers

On Saturday October 16th 19 enthusiastic Gaelic 4 Mothers players left Rathcormac to compete in the All Ireland Blitz in Dublin.  Having started this initiative in July the club were hopeful of attending all the blitzes that were organised.  Over 20 training sessions and 2 regional blitzes later these ladies were ready to take on the rest of the country.  We were delighted to be able enter two teams of 9 even if it did mean we had no subs we were able boast maximum participation 100% of the time!  Both teams played 5 games each.  The main aim of this initiative is to encourage ladies not currently playing with a club to play football in a non-competitive manner.  As a result no scores were taken in the match but we can say we did really well in all games!  The ladies were a credit to the club and the exhibition of skills on show from all just proves what a little training and practice can do.  All were much more confident in their ability compared to their first outing in July.  The social element has been an integral part of the group all year and this continued on the Saturday night with the organised entertainment. We wish a speedy recovery to Lilly Nugent and Ger Kearney who got injured on the field of play over the weekend.  Both were big losses to their teams but they now have  the off season to recuperate.   Well done to all that took part in the Gaelic 4 Mothers within the club throughout the year.  A special well done to anyone that played in the blitzes.  To say it was a huge success for 2010 would be an understatement and all involved look forward to the 2011 season and hope to surpass the heights of this year and go on to represent the club in Croke Park on All-Ireland final day.  We look forward to many more days out for our mascot F.J who gave divine inspiration over the weekend and some might say he was a blessing in disguise. Many thanks to our supporters that travelled on the day and to Susan for her photography skills.

U21 Championship

Bride Rovers   11gl 11pts                                         Mallow 5gl 12 pts

Our u21 girls played Mallow in the championship on Monday last in Mallow. With only one girl on the age and our youngest girl only 13, and seven of our starting team u16 it is fair to say we went into the game with little expectation. However such was not to be the case playing against the wind we got off to a dream start with Katie Connor scoring a superb goal within the first 3 minutes and 2 minutes later Grace found the back of the net to put us well ahead .However Mallow responded within a minute with a point and then were awarded a penalty which many would have felt was a harsh decision .They found the net and were back in the running again. Many would have hung their heads at this stage but it drove our girls on and for the next 40 minutes it was all Rovers with every girl playing her heart out. Our goalie Eadaoin  and backs Avelina Maria Rebecca Carol Jennifer B and Mary were well tested on many occasions but played great team work covering and helping each other right throughout the game .Grace and Martha held the midfield roll anchoring the whole team superb ,our forwards Sinead ,Elaine Jennifer C , Erin (who was in line for player of the match award) Eleanor and Katie all found the net at some stage and such was the brace of goals one would have to feel sorry for the Mallow goalkeeper who didn’t stand a chance from some of the shots that were blazed at her.It was a great win for such a young team and we wait in anticipation for our next round against this coming weekend date and time not available at time of going to press.

U13

Bride Rovers U13 girls footballers had a busy October weekend, participating in a qualifying blitz for next year’s Feile on Saturday, October 23 and playing Nemo Rangers in a friendly game at our own pitch on Monday, October 25.

The blitz didn’t go very well for us unfortunately and we were well beaten by both Fermoy and Aghada, who were very strong on the day. Thanks nevertheless to all the girls who turned out this late in the season.

We put in a much improved performance against Nemo on Monday and played out a draw in a well contested game, 3-4 to 3-4.

We had a good turn-out of players and it was another good end-of-season test against a side preparing for a final next weekend.
