U16 Football

Tuesday, April 30th, Mayfield.

Mayfield 0-3       Bride Rovers 5-6

Bride Rovers U16 footballers secured a league semi-final spot and a place in county competition when they overcame Mayfield to gain their fifth win of the campaign. We made the better use of the chances that came our way during the hour and that was the main difference between the sides in the end because Mayfield enjoyed their fair share of possession around the pitch. Aoife Deasy finished the game with a personal tally of 4-2 from her full-forward berth and this exciting young player continues to excel.

Panel : Madison Parle, Sarah O Flynn, Niamh Murphy, Margaret Kearney, Aoife O Riordan, Grainne Noonan, Aine Cashman, Laura Quirke, Karen Sheehan (0-3), Jessica Howard, Emma Roche, Meg Kelliher (1-1), Elaine Culloty, Aoife Deasy (4-2), Laura Pratt, Michelle Lane, Shauna O’Connell, Maria O’Sullivan, Emma Hazelwood, Emma Barry, Aisling Finnegan.

Bride Rovers vs Na Piarsaigh

Our U12 girls football team played Na Piarsaigh in the East Cork League at Pynes`s field last Thursday evening. This  bunch of girls have improved with every outing this year and last Thursday night was no exception. From the throw-in, our girls set our their intention to win this game. They worked very hard as a unit and we saw some great passing movements. Unfortunately, we seemed to leave our scoring boots at home in the first half and we kicked 13 wides during this period. We still went in at half time ahead on the scoreboard.

During the break, the girls were encouraged to continue to create the chances and to keep shooting but to steady up before kicking. It seemed to work, as we got some great scores in the second half and kicked far less wides. We had four subs on Thurdsay night and it shows our strength that each one played very well  when introduced. In fact, Bronagh Cleary kicked a great goal with her very first touch when she was introduced at half time. Lucy Hicks also scored 3 great points in the second half after a little bit of advice at half time. Even Rachael O Flynn got on the score sheet when moved from fullback to full forward late in the game! It is great to see the scores coming from more players throughout the field and that we are not always relying on the same 2 or 3 players for our scores.

We ran out comfortable winners in the end, so well done to all of our players on a great team performance. We have 2 games this week, Tuesday the 7th at home to Fermoy and Thursday the 9th away to Delaneys.

U10 Football

Bride Rovers 2-1 Fermoy 5-7

We played our first U10 league game last week against Fermoy. They proved too strong for us on this occasion. We were under constant pressure at the back as Shauna L , Kate O’R, Caoimhe K and Lauren were defending well. Ruby H and Kate L were chasing everything. Niamh, Abby and Alice were trying to get the ball to the forwards but Fermoy were attacking constantly. We failed to score in the first half as Fermoy scored 3-3

In the second half Megan moved to goal and made some great saves and kick outs. Alanna and Aoife were strong tackling as best they could. Caoimhe G, Michelle, Abby, Molly and Ruby B were all introduced as subs and played well. Fermoy scored an extra 2-4 throughout the second half while we did attack with Jessie scoring a goal Shauna a point and Ciara a goal. Well done girls.
