Briderovers Ladies football&report  21-9-10

Monday, Sep 13. U14 East Cork Ladies Football Championship Semi-Final

Glanmire 5-9      Bride Rovers 3-10.

Bride Rovers exited the U14 East Cork championship on Monday Sep 13 when we visited Glanmire and were defeated by 5-9 to 3-10.

As the scoreline indicates, both forward lines were generally on top throughout the game but Rovers were ultimately defeated in the resulting shootout.

We enjoyed a significant wind advantage in the first half and led 2-6 to 2-4 at half-time, our goals coming from Ava Merry and Maeve Ahern. In hindsight, our lead could have been greater because we found ourselves in several promising positions which did not yield scores.

The second half continued in the same vein with the sides swapping scores regularly with the result that the scores were level until very close to the end when Glanmire moved a few scores clear. Rovers were very unlucky not to draw level when we narrowly missed a penalty which was very well struck but flew past the post. Rovers’ back line and goalkeeper Madison Parle were heroic on occasions to deny Glanmire what looked like certain goals but we conceded a final goal late into injury time which killed off the tie. Hard luck to our panel of girls and best of luck to Glanmire in the final.

Wednesday, September 15..

East Cork U12 Ladies Football Championship Semi-Final.

Bride Rovers 4-12               Aghada 0-3.

Bride Rovers qualified for an East Cork U12 Championship final when they defeated a young Aghada side by 4-12 to 0-3 at Rovers main pitch. Aghada tried hard and demonstrated some good skills but I think the Rovers panel had the greater experience and this told in the end.

We kept up a good scoring rate throughout the game and it was interesting that we scored 2-6 in each half. It was also heartening that we had a good spread of scorers. Our backs were not as busy as in some recent games but worked well when required. We also have a second team in the East Cork championship and all unused substitutes from this game will figure centrally in that semi-final.

Briderovers u16 team

Briderovers 1-3 Fermoy 1-10

Our u16 team played Fermoy on Monday night last in Rathcormac in the semifinal of the East Cork championship..With only 16 players togged out on the night unfortunately we were without Dayna(injured)and  Katie (sick). Fair play to our girls they really put it up  to Fermoy who would have a much older team than us  .We were ahead a goal a half time but credit to Fermoy they defended unreal in the second half  and never allowed our girls to score.
