Bride Roves G.A.A. Club notes for the week.

November 8, 2018

Good attendance at AGM.

Despite the sub-zero temperatures on Wed night last December the 8th a fine crowd turned up at Arus de Barra for the Annual General Meeting of the Club for 2010/2011. Outgoing Cathaoirleach Michael Carey welcomed everyone and then proceeded to ask Runai Nicola Barry to read the Minutes of the last AGM which were duly proposed, seconded and signed.

In her Tuairiscail Bliantiuil the Runai outlined the activities of the Club on and off the playing fields during the 2010 season. As regards trophies it was a very sparse return with the Junior Football League Division 2 win our only silverware garnered for the year. The unfortunate incidents in the SHC game v Fanuithe an Ghleanna dominated the year and the club had a very serious financial burden to bear as a result. Our lack of success at Minor and u21 level is a major problem and will have to be addressed. In her report the Runai dealt with all the clubs adult teams in League and Championship action. The Development of modern Club Facilities has commenced and this will provide a major challenge in the years ahead especially in these recessionary times. As her three year term for serving as Club Runai has expired the Runai thanked all those who  helped with the running of the Club in so many ways.

Next on the Agenda was the report of the Cisteoir James Bermingham. The Income and Expenditure figures made sobering reading. We ended the year with a substantial defecit. For 2011 this situation will have to be reversed. We all have heard of ‘cutting our cloth according to the measure’ – well the Club’s Finances will merit much discussion for the Incoming Executive. With expensive developments in the pipeline only absolutely necessary expenditure will be even considered for 2011.

Mike Carey in his Address spoke of a difficult year for the club. He thanked all the Executive Members who attended meetings and helped in so many ways with the running of the club. He thanked John Murphy and the Field Committee and also the Development and Finance Committees.

A long discussion took place on Juvenile Coaching and the lack of playing numbers at the various age-groups from u21 down to u12. It was agreed that a major coaching/games/involvement initiative will have to be put in place. A joint work group drawn from the adult, juvenile and ladies clubs is to be set up. More AGM Details next week.

County Convention.

‘The most low key Convention for years’ was an apt description of the Cork GAA’s Annual Convention held in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday night last. The proceedings were done and dusted in a little over two hours. The size of the fines imposed on Fanuithe an Ghleanna and ourselves was discussed but there was no sign of a refund coming to either Club! In the Draw for the 2011 SHC we are pitted against City side Na Piarsaigh who defeated us in Fermoy  in the 2004 Championship. Congrats to Ger Lane elected as County Communications Officer once more and to Diarmuid Gowen elected as Co. Development Officer.
