Briderovers Ladies Football & Camogie Club Notes

November 8, 2018

Our U14 girls finished their season on Sunday last in Aghada with a great win over Carrigtwohill in the league final. Having been beaten by the same team two weeks earlier in the championship they were all out to seek revenge for that loss. The game was played in what can only be described as the worst conditions possible with the girls having to play most of the match in torrential rain.

Unlike the previous encounter our girls got stuck in from the start and even though Carrig were first on the scoreboard it was to be the only lead they were to have throughout the game. Our backs were once again outstanding, one wouldn’t have forgiven Aine our goalie if she wore a pair of wellies such was the amount of water in the goal mouth in the first half, however it didn’t deter her performance in either half she was rock solid throughout and comfortably dealt with every ball that came her way.

The two Shannon’s had their usual solid performances and Dayna had an absolute excellent performance in the corner playing her best game ever in the rover’s shirt. The half back line of Trish Claire and Eva were well tested with the two Carrig centerfields bearing down on them on numerous occasions and each time they withstood the pressure and cleared great ball back up field .Our two centre fields Rebecca and Lauren were marking Carrigs two strongest players and did an excellent job right throughout the game covering unreal ground in the process. Our six forwards had their work cut out against a very strong Carrig defence  ,Chloe moved from her full forward position and played as a third midfielder and played great ball in to the other forwards and scoring a great point of  her own also.

Our two corner forwards Meg and Katie were well marked today having run riot the last game however they still manage to win great ball and lay it off on numerous occasions to the incoming half forwards of Erin Jennifer and Mary. Erin played a great game considering she was floored in the first two minutes of the game into the big pool of water on the pitch and was soaked from head to foot and needless to say frozen. Mary worked .tirelessly throughout the game and scored a cracker of a goal following a great pass from Karen Sheehan (who had just been introduced) which put us ahead by five points at a vital time in the game. Two minutes later Jennifer scored another great goal having contributed 4 points already and finishing top scorer with a tally of 1-6.

The score of the match had to be the next goal coming from the boot of Trish who took a long rang free out about 50 yard s from goal and lobbed it in over the keeper.Cliona and Carmel were introduced in the second half and played their part and Margaret has been sick for two weeks so didn’t play but has been a vital part of the panel all year. we won of a shoreline of 3-6 t0 3 pts .It was a delighted but soaked captain Shannon Mulhall who accepted the trophy from Dave Daly referee on the day and it was a great finish for these girls who have been training since last March and a big thank you to John A and Dominic who have trained the girls twice a week all year and a special thanks from Dominic, John A, Mary and Betty and all the girls to Shirley who gives up so much of her time and does so much work behind the scenes with out ever looking for praise or thanks. So here’s to the end of 2009  roll on 2010
