The U16s played St Nicks in the second round of the Premier 2 Under 16 football championship in Cloughduv last Friday night. Rangers raced into a 2-02 to 0-01 lead, the goals coming from Ciaran Santry and Evan Browne. But St Nicks slowly came into the game and at half time , Rangers were ahead 2-05 to 2-03. Nicks were first off the mark in the second half before Caolan Hayes scored an excellent pt to make it 2-06 to 2-05 to Rangers. While Ross were defending well, and the hard working midfielders Barry Kerr and Kelan Scannell were on top, St Nicks broke through and got a goal to leave Ross trailing 2-06 to 3-05. In a pulsating finish, excellent play from the outstanding Peadar O Rourke saw Darragh Calnan , who troubled the Nicks defence , goal to give Rangers a one point lead with ten minutes left , 3-06 to 3-05. It was end to end stuff for the remainder of the match and with 3 minutes left Nicks equalised but 2 super points from Kelan Scannell and Peadar O Rourke saw Rangers hold on, to win 3-08 to 3-06.

Well done to all 4 teams , who played 2 sporting semifinals. On Saturday Rangers played Clan Na Gael in the final, in a great game of football. Rangers were ahead at half time by 2 points but it was Clan Na Gael who ran out deserving winners 2-14 to 2-06. The cup was presented to the victorious team by Tony's daughter Aisling and many members of Tony's family were present for this wonderful occasion. Well done to all the teams who played and to those involved in the organisation of this very special and successful competition.
