Geoffrey Sheridan palyed a leaders role when he fired over three late points to give Carras a dramatic victory over The Neale in Friday’s county minor league semi-final in Cong on a final scoreline of 0-16 to 1-9. The home side were tipped by many to advance to the final as they ahd finished top of the Division 3 league table at the completion of all seven rounds, where as Carras had just sneaked fourth place above Breaffy. But all that counted for little on Friday evening as Carras delivered a superb first half performance to lead 0-10 to 1-1 at the break. Geoffrey Sheridan was the leading scorer with five points, (four frees) while Joseph Cooper and Gavin Burke both hit a brace of points throughout the middle third of the half to leave The Neale with a moutain to climb in the second half.

Colin Hughes had increased Carras’s lead with a further point early into the resumption, but then The Neale began to show what they are capable of by hitting six points without reply to narrow the gap to the minimum, 0-11 to 1-7. However this purple patch ended twelve minutes from time when it was none other than Sean Golden who hit an excellent point from play that put a hole in The Neale’s challenge and Carras went on from here to run out four point winners, with Sheridan the main scorer in chief. Carras now march into their first county final since the club was formed last winter against either Burrishrule or Ardnaree in the coming weeks, while their South Minor championship campain kicks off shortly against Davitts, so a busy few weeks lay ahead.
