Castlewellan GAC

November 8, 2018

* Castlewellan hosted Louth senior hurling champions Knockbridge last Saturday and were unlucky to lose by a point in a most entertaining hour of hurling on a score line of 2-13 to 3-11. A strong first half by the town saw them go in four points to the good with Jason Croskery, Brendan McCann and Tony Ferris in fine scoring form. The bigger Louth team upped their game with the aid of the breeze in the second half yet the greens kept in touch thanks to a solid half back line of Aidan Keown, Ray Cunningham and Eamon Hardy. Up front Brendan McCann and Jason Croskery were a constant threat while Tony Ferris had another good hour in midfield. A good team performance again from the lads and just a whisker away from a result against the strongest side in the division. There is now a break in the Tain League until an away trip to Kilclief on April 7th. Scorers – Jason Croskery 1-6, Brendan McCann 1-1, Tony Ferris 0-2, Thomas Jennings 0-2, Paul McCabe 0-1 & Cathal Keown 0-1.

* Thank you to the lads who worked on Saturday morning at the car wash. Gerard Keown is lightning with a shammy, Cahal Og Keown had some great stick work. Later on he played hurling and was seen shining the goalposts. Got it the wrong way round Cahal! Finally Martin Brannigan a legend with a bucket of water. He finally got the message that it was supposed to go on the car not in it! Good to see Gary C there in his resplendent glory undoing the lads good work. At least he got his face washed. Seriously though thank you to all the lads for giving their time last Saturday. Great work lads. There will be another car wash on Saturday morning. The Senior Hurlers will be doing their bit for the Club so come along and support the car wash! Support your Club!!
