Last Saturday,  The Under 16's played Gabriel Rangers in The Premier 2 U16 Football Championship Final in Castlehaven and at half time one would be forgiven for thinking the game was beyond Rangers reach, given the lead Gabriel's had, 3-06 to 1-03 and the poor conditions for football, but Rangers staged a tremendous comeback , showed great character and were unlucky to loose a fantastic game despite their heroic efforts. Only a kick of a ball separated the teams at the final whistle,  Carbery Rangers 2-12 Gabriel Rangers 3-12
In front of a large crowd in a well prepared Castlehaven venue, Gabriel's opened the scoring with a point, with  the hard working Peadar O Rourke responding for Ross . Both sides exchanged points, Ross from a Harry Oates Free before Gabriel's went ahead 12 minutes in, 0-03 to 0-02. Ross took control for the next five minutes and a great Sam Linehan goal following some good team work and another Harry Oates Free put Ross ahead after 16 minutes 1-03 to 0-03. But Gabriel's completely dominated the remainder of the half and scored  3 goals and 3 points before the half time whistle to give them a very comfortable 9 point lead and the Ross boys a mountain to climb.
Within two minutes of the restart Gabriel's streched their lead to ten points before Ross began their comeback.  Five unanswered points from the Ross boys had Gabriel's lead back to 5 points after 12 minutes, 3-08 to 1-09.Ross were dominating midfield , picking up alot of the breaks and a tremendous save from goalie Araon O Brien kept their comeback alive.
Gabriel's got the next two points, before Harry Oates slotted over another point and by the 23rd minute two further Gabriel points had them ahead 3-12 to 1-10 and it looked like they were coasting to victory.  But Ross were having none of it, and put in a huge effort to the very end. Barry Kerr got a great goal on the 25th minute and Ross took complete control in a frantic final five minutes.  The Gabriel's goalie pulled off two fine saves from Ciaran Santry and Evan Browne, and despite great defending from Ross,  the pressure the Ross boys piled on the Gabriel's defence  and two more frees from Harry Oates,  Gabriel's just held on to win 3-12 to 2-12.
Great credit goes to both teams for an outstanding final, and to the Ross boys and their management  for their fantastic come back.
