SCÓR

The Scór na n-Óg heats have been taking place over the past three weekends and the club’s Culture Officer, Jim McGovern has been trawling the parish for competitors in the various events.

This time the club competed in three event; Question Time, Singing and Recital. In Question Time, Shane Byrne, Padraig Donagh and Emma Duffy performed very creditibly but failed to make the final. In the Recital, Eleanor Morris put in a super performance in her first year, and while she didn’t qualify, given that she is underage for the next ten years, the future looks good.

Finally, Grainne Smith put in a beautiful rendition and made it through to the County Final which is in Stradone this Sunday night, so best of luck to Grainne in it.

MINORS

The Club minors are back preparing for their tilt at the Ulster Club Championship when O’Raghallaigh Gaels will face Erne Gaels (Fermanagh) in the Quarter Finals this Saturday 26th  at 1.30pm up in St. Paul’s GAC in Belfast (Host Club).  A bus has been arranged so to put your name down for it please contact Pat Faulkner.  Thanks to everyone who supported the fundraising quiz for the Minors last Friday night in Malones.

DINNER DANCES

The Cavan GAA Awards take place in the Hotel Kilmore on Friday 25th November. This year there will be presentations to Senior, Intermediate & Junior players of the year as well as medal presentations to the victorious Ulster winning Minor and U-21 teams.  Given that these teams featured eight representatives from the Club it is hoped that a good Kingscourt crowd can make the night. The event itself is a full dinner dance function with music. Tickets are priced at €40 and are available from the club Secretary or Chairman.

Also, the Cavan Ladies GAA Dinner Dance takes place in the Hotel Kilmore on Friday 2nd December @ 8.30pm. Tickets for this are €30 and can be got of Pat Farrelly or Kieran Smith.  Finally, the club will hold their own dinner dance to mark the various successes of 2011 and this will take place in Cabra Castle in January.  Further details to follow in the coming weeks.

GAA ORAL HISTORY PROJECT
The GAA Oral History Project is an opportunity to be involved in the largest sport’s history project in the world. Every club has its own unique stories, personalities and experiences and this project wants to make sure that our club’s history is recorded so that future generations will know the contribution that our club and individual members in our locality have made to the GAA and have your story preserved in the GAA Museum in Croke Park.

This is not just a story about the famous players and famous matches, but about the grassroots who are responsible for keeping the Association alive. This project aims to be a representative survey of attitudes to and experiences of the GAA among Irish people – be they good or bad.

To get involved, you can simply fill in the questionnaire which can be obtained from www.kingscourtstars.ie .You could maybe ask your teacher to do a class project or contact Niall Reilly if you can think of someone who you fell the club should contact in this regard.  For more details on this project you can contact the Project Team directly via www.gaahistory.com or give Arlene Crampsie a ring on 01-6147456.
