SENIORS

In a repeat of last year’s county final, the Seniors surrendered their title to Cavan Gaels in their Championship Quarter Final encounter. In a very disappointing display, the team never really threatened to make a match of things and tamely exited on a score line of 1-16 to 0-8.

In a eerily similar start to last September, the Gaels began brightly and a quick counter-attack saw them find the back of the net and lead 1-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Alas, the similarities with the County Final ended there and we only managed to find one more score before halftime, as Ryan McCormack doubled our tally following Joe Dillon’s earlier point.

Trailing 1-9 to 0-2 at halftime a bright start was required but sadly it was not forthcoming and the Gaels managed to score at will and while Kingscourt made more of a contest of it in the second half the result was never in doubt once the Gaels opened up the second half with a couple of points.  So as the rain descended over a gloomy Breffni Park, it rather fitted the mood in the Kingscourt crowd was the winding journey home began.  The one “bright” spot maybe  that the team will have an opportunity to make a better show in the final league match of the season.  Needing a win to try and secure a semi-final spot, the opponents; Cavan Gaels…..

JUNIORS

The Juniors had a better week than the Seniors as they successfully made it by their Championship Quarter Final with a 1-7 to 0-7 victory over Ramor Utd in Virginia last Wednesday evening.  They face a return trip this Wednesday evening when the meet Ballinagh for a place in the Junior B Final at 6.45pm.
