SENIORS & JUNIORS

The Seniors poor run continued as they suffered their third straight defeat when Ballinagh came away with the points at a sun-baked O’Raghallaigh Park on Saturday evening. After a tight opening quarter, the visitors took a hold on proceedings in the second quarter and raced into a 0-8 to 0-5 lead by halftime despite missing a number of goal chances.

With Alan Clarke having to go off injured, the side were up against it in the third quarter, and the concession of an early goal did not help matters. However, the lads kept the heads and replied with three points to quickly reduce the deficit to 1-8 to 0-8 but then Ballinagh got through for another goal. This blow looked terminal and the final quarter played out with both sides exchanging points and the visitors squandering further goal chances.

Next up for the Seniors is a trip to Ballyhaise on Thursday evening (8pm) when they will look to try and rediscover both winning ways and their goal touch.  12 goals in the opening six games having been replaced with a solitary green flag in the last five. After the trip to Ballyhaise, a visit to Belturbet on Saturday week (16th) will be the last opportunity to regain that winning feeling before the Championship.

The Juniors came out on top of the fiercely entertaining match after the Seniors and gained the points with a narrow 3-9 to 2-10 victory to keep their place towards the top of Division 1A. Next up for them is also a trip to Ballyhaise, although this one doesn’t happen until Wed 13th July.

CLUB NEWSLETTER

The First Club Newsletter (in a long time anyway) issued earlier this month. It features updates on every club team along with pen pics on two players, a look back to 1981 and some quiz questions.  The newsletter is available from each team management as well as a number of shops around the town. To those of you who don’t get a hold of it, you can look at the online version on the club website.

LOTTO

The winning numbers in last week’s lotto were 14, 18, 25 & 27 (Bonus 22). There was no Jackpot winner but the two Match 3’s (Ruth Sullivan & Pauline Fleming) win €100 each. Next week’s jackpot will be €6,600 and the draw will take place on Sunday 10th  July in Malones.

CONGRATS

Well Done to Joe, James, Padraig and all involved with the Cavan Minors after their thrilling Ulster Championship Semi Final victory over Tyrone in Enniskillen on Sunday evening. With the underage sides now after claiming two championship victories over Tyrone this year, it just goes to show all is not doom and gloom within the county.

The side will now face a hotly-fancied Armagh side in the Final in Clones  @ 2pm on Sunday 17th July as curtain-raiser to the Derry v Donegal Senior Final.  There’s nothing quite like an Ulster Final in Clones on a hot Summers’ day (trust me it will be sunny) so if any club member is interested in going along to support the lads, just put your name down with Pat Faulkner, or any committee member, for tickets by the end of this week.
