SENIORS

The Seniors secured a championship semi-final with a hard-fought 0-11 to 0-10 victory over Gowna on Saturday night at Kingspan Breffni Park.

The Stars started brightly and led 0-4 to 0-1 after the first quarter and while points from Ryan McCormack & Mark McKeown kept the lead through the 2nd quarter it was only due to some poor shooting from Gowna that Kingscourt led 0-7 to 0-4 at halftime.

Gowna started the 2nd half sharply to narrow the gap and received a further boost when Kingscourt were reduced to 14 men early in the half and they leveled matters at 0-8 each with 10 minutes remaining.

Gowna appeared to have the momentum now but a further McKeown point put Kingscourt back in the lead before Gowna leveled matters again.  At this stage, both sides were emptying the bench and while Gowna were able to call on former County stars, Pearson & McCabe it was Kingscourt’s bench that made the difference.  A super 50 from Gavin Sheenan and then a point from the excellent Barry Tully gave Kingscourt a cushion and while Gowna pegged one back, the Stars survived a late rally to make the last four.

It may not have been the greatest game in the world but credit is due to the team for grinding out the victory against such battle-hardened opposition.  This victory will stand to them but everyone will realise a step up will be required if Ramor Utd, and an 11 year county final gap, are to be overcome.  The semi final will be played in Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday 11th September at 8pm.

JUNIORS

The Juniors face Cavan Gaels in a Junior B Semi this Saturday at 3pm in Cootehill.  A huge task being asked of the side against the strongest panel in the county.  However, it’s a championship semi-final against the Gaels so if that doesn’t bring the best out of the team, then nothing will.  If you can make your way to Cootehill to cheer the lads on, please do so.

Also, both Seniors & Juniors had a team day out last week.  For photos of the occasion, just click here.

UNDERAGE

Well done to Aaron Brown who was part of an UlsteR U-16 Devleopment squad that beat Connacht last week.  We hope to have some photos from this shortly.

Also, the 12s had a great day out in Cavan on Saturday.  Super Blitz, followed by McDonalds and then back to Breffni for the Senior match where they certainly left their mark by cheering the side on to victory.  Hopefully pictures from this will also follow shortly.

CLASSIC MATCHES

The latest report to feature on the Classic Matches tab  is a Senior Championship Quarter Final victory over Cavan Gaels. Some of the items to look out include a man still togging out for the Seniors and a half-forward line made up of three brothers. By the way, to our younger readers, the result isn’t a typo, there was a time when the Gaels received some championship hidings, as opposed to the other way round….. Just click here to read all about it.

If anyone has any old match reports/photos that they would like featured in this section, please e-mail info@kingscourtstars.ie or ring Niall on 086 8237382.

JUVENILE DRAW

GAMES IN THE PARK

The next two weekends see’s O’Raghallaigh Park being used for some local derbies in various championship encounters that will be well worth taking in.  This Friday night (3rd) Knockbride will take on Drumgoon in an Intermediate Championship Quarter Final @ 7.30pm in what promises to be a right old battle.

Then on the following Saturday (11th), Shercock will play Bailieboro for a place in the Junior C Championship Final @ 3pm.  You can take that in before you get a bite to eat and then head of to Breffni to cheer on the Seniors in their own Championship semi-final.
