16TH AUGUST 2010

SENIORS

After securing a spot in the Championship Quarter-final, the Seniors had no time to rest on their laurels this week, as they faced two away leagues matches.

First up on Tuesday evening, they made the short trip to Mullagh to face Cuchullainns in a re-arranged match and seeking on opportunity to make amends for our Championship defeat late last month. Right from the off the side meant business and at the end they were worth every one of the eight points difference as they emerged victorious by 1-17 to 1-9.

Next up, was a slightly longer trip to Belturbet on Saturday. With the home side still in contention for a play-off spot and eager to get over their championship exit a tight game was expected and it played out that way.  However, we managed to ground out yet another impressive win, this time by 1-14 to 1-12.

That leaves just one league match left and the worst we can finish is joint top before the play-off for the silverware.  A super achievement to all connected with the team in the Seniors first year back in Division One after two years in Division Two.

That final league match, away to Crosserlough is likely to take place after the Championship Quarter-Final against Gowna. However that game has not been finalised yet (probably last weekend in August) however confirmed details on will appear here  when received.

JUNIORS

Like the Seniors, the Juniors also faced a trip to Cuchullains this week when they met in the Quarter-Finals of the Junior B Championship on Sunday. A super match saw the side eventually emerge with the right result and a two point win by 2-9 to 0-13.

They are now through to the semi final and will face either Cavan Gaels, Belturbet or Mullahoran. Again not sure on when the draw will happen or when the match will occur but would reckon we should know more in the coming days and game is likely to be Wednesday week, but click here  for updates during the week

MINORS

The Minors met Eire Og Celtics in the semi-finals of the Division 2 Championship in Bailieboro on Wednesday last. However, the side were defeated by four points by Eire Og Celtics on a scoreline of 2-11 to 3-4.

Both players and management should be equally proud of themselves for the season.  A small panel was severely put to the test on a number of occasions and everyone of the players performed with huge credit and represented themselves, their family and the club with great honour.

With only five of the panel overage, we hope to see the remainder back in training in early 2011 where they can build on their 2010 efforts.  For those overage next year, hopefully they can continue to play with the club at a higher level.

UNDERAGE

With the 12s, 13s, 16s & 18s all finished for the year the sole Underage Championship hope for the club for 2010 rests with the 14s, no pressure lads….

The 14s will kick into action next Monday (23rd) when they face Ramor Utd at 7pm down the park. Training takes place tonight (Mon) @ 6.45pm for both the 14s & 12s.  There are a number of challenge matches in the pipeline for the 12s over the coming weeks and also a Super Blitz in Kingspan Breffni Park on Saturday 28th August

Finally the 10s are away to Kells tomorrow night (Tues) for a challenge match and again more are planned over the next few weeks.

CLASSIC MATCHES

While the club is to the forefront of modern technology for GAA Clubs as evidenced by the recent live streaming, we don’t want to forget about the ‘good aul’ days’ either.  While we continue to put up clips from old matches of yesteryear, we are now starting to upload old match reports from historical games.  Nothing fancy about it, but you will come across some interesting names.

Just click here for details of a Junior B Final from 1981 (or is it ’82!) featuring a man known for mid-game involvement on the field, but not as a player. Also a 1979 U-21 Final that was the start of a golden era and saw a club legend play so well, he seemingly played in two positions simultaneously…..

If anyone has any old match reports/photos that they would like featured in this section, please e-mail info@kingscourtstars.ie or ring Niall on 086 8237382.

 JUVENILE DRAW

The juvenile club’s annual fundraising draw takes place in September.  This is the only fundraising event the club has in this regard and is of vital importance to the running of the many underage teams that the club fields in both boys & girls from U-6 upwards.

First prize is Two Tickets to the All-Ireland Senior Football Final along with overnight accommodation in Skylon Hotel and €200 spending money.  There are further cash prizes all the way down to 8th place.

All told, a prize well worth winning so why not try your luck and help support all the good work that the many volunteers at underage level put in, not to mention the dedication of the young players as well.  Tickets are available for all committee members and from usual retail outlets (i.e. Pat, Robbie & M&F’s….) and this year can also be purchased directly on the club website, so for those of ye who can’t make it to a committee man over the next month, just click here and try your luck….

 LOTTO

The winning numbers in this week’s lotto were 04, 12, 13 & 15 (Bonus 20).  There was no jackpot winner with the two match 3’s (Micky Crosby & Ronan Meegan) win €100 each. Next week’s jackpot will be €2,600 (€7,600 including bonus) and the draw will take place in Murtagh’s.
