SENIORS

The Seniors secured top spot in the group, and a quarter-final against Gowna,  with a 1-14 to 0-10 victory over Redhills in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday evening.  A slick passing move finished to the net by Barry Reilly after 14th mins gave the Stars an early cushion which they never relinquished despite a gallant third quarter push by Redhills.

Ahead of the goals both sides had exchanged frees but the goal allowed Kingscourt some space and a super foraging run by corner-back, Paddy Farrelly helped Kingscourt extend their lead, with Mark McKeown also slotting over to give Kingscourt a 1-5 to 0-3 halftime lead.  However, Kingscourt really should have been further ahead with a number of goal chances being missed during the half.

Redhills hit back early in the second half to reduce the gap to a solitary score at 1-7 0-7 but four points in little over five minutes from the Stars saw the revival promptly halted with Mossy Malone & McKeown finishing off some great scores.  To compound Redhills misery, two further injury points from Kingscourt saw Cuchullains overtake them on score difference, thus missing out on the quarter-finals.

The draw for the quarter-finals took place afterwards and Kingscourt were drawn against perennial Championship contenders, Gowna.  There is no doubt the level of intensity will need to be wracked up a few levels for that one (scheduled for 28th/29th August) but given that two weeks ago we were heading home from Virginia after a defeat by Cuchullains, we’ll take the current position and work on things over the rest of the month…..

In the meantime, it’s back to the league.  While a semi-final spot has already been secured, there is still the matter of looking to stay top of the league, as well as championship places being up for grabs.  Also, given that the next match on at 8pm Tuesday (10th) is away to Cuchullains, there’s also the chance to redeem the recent Championship defeat. Also, league match away to Belturbet at the weekend but no confirmation of time & day for that, I’m reckoning Saturday evening probably, but click here for confirmation during the week.

JUNIORS  STREAMED LIVE

Kingscourt Stars GAA made history on 13th July 2010 when they became the first Cavan & Ulster GAA club (and just the 2nd in Ireland) to stream a live match on their website.

We took our second steps last week when we streamed our first competitive match as we hosted Gowna in the 1st Rd of the Junior B Championship.   A great night altogether with super performances both on and off the field.

On the field the Juniors put in a magnificent show with a Kieran Gorman goal on the stroke of halftime giving us a 1-6 to 0-3 lead, after James Farrelly had saved an earlier penalty.  In the 2nd half, the Juniors really put on the style and goals from Michael Flood and Glen McCormack sealed a comfortable win by 3-14 to 0-6. Next up the Juniors will face a trip to Cuchullains in the Quarter-Finals on Sunday 15th August.

Not to be outdone by the lads on the pitch, the off-field team of Darren Monaghan (Commentary), Tommy Reilly (Cameraman) & Pat Connolly (the IT brains) also combined brilliantly to give out a highly polished production.  Thank a million to the lads for giving up their time and the 100+ viewers who tuned in.

U-13’s

The ‎13s bowed out of this year’s championship as an under-strength side saw Castlerahan reverse the earlier group result as we were defeated by 2-10 to 2-7. What a game though! Missing four players, we went 1-4 to 0-0 down after 15. However, after that we fought for every ball all over the pitch.

For a man of the match, we would just write out the team sheet! Great to see lads fight for each other playing great football and leave the pitch after giving everything. Hard Luck but well done on a super campaign

MINORS

After the Minors opening championship victory over St. Finbarrs last week, they now meet Eire Og Celtics in the semi-finals in Bailieboro on Wed 11th @ 7.30pm

CLASSIC MATCHES

While the club is to the forefront of modern technology for GAA Clubs as evidenced by the recent live streaming, we don’t want to forget about the ‘good aul’ days’ either.  While we continue to put up clips from old matches of yesteryear, we are now starting to upload old match reports from historical games.  Nothing fancy about it, but you will come across some interesting names.

Just click here for details of a Junior B Final from 1981 (or is it ’82) featuring a man known for mid-game involvement on the field, but not as a player, and also a 1979 U-21 Final that was the start of a golden era and saw a club legend play so well, he seemingly played in two positions simulanteously…..

If anyone has any old match reports/photos that they would like featured in this section, please e-mail info@kingscourtstars.ie or ring Niall on 086 8237382.

JUVENILE DRAW

The juvenile club’s annual fundraising draw takes place in September.  This is the only fundraising event the club has in this regard and is of vital importance to the running of the many underage teams that the club fields in both boys & girls from U-6 upwards.

Again, first prize is Two Tickets to the All-Ireland Senior Football Final along with overnight accommodation in Jury’s Croke Park Hotel and €200 spending money.  There are further cash prizes all the way down to 8th place.

All told, a prize well worth winning so why not try your luck and help support all the good work that the many volunteers at underage level put in, not too mention the dedication of the young players as well.  Tickets are available for all committee members and from usual retail outlets (i.e. Pat, Robbie & M&F’s….)

LOTTO

The winning numbers in this week’s lotto were 02, 04, 13 & 23 (Bonus 05).  There was no jackpot winner with the three match 3’s (Wayne Patterson, Grainné Boyle & Pauric McMahon) winning €70 each. Next week’s jackpot will be €2,400 (€7,400 including bonus) and the draw will take place in The Wishing Well.
