SOCIAL NIGHT

There was a social night last weekend in Murtagh’s with presentations to last season’s Seniors and Juniors.  Both sides topped their respective divisions and gained promotion and received their medals to mark their successes, with each management also acknowledged.  There were also an awards for Barry Reilly to mark his double Ulster Colleges All Stars awards along with Paul Brady and our own Michael Finnegan’s world handball titles being celebrated. A great evening and night was had by all and photos from the night are up here.

MINORS

The Minors had an away match v Shercock on Sunday afternoon.  A hectic first half saw the young Stars lead 3-4 to 2-6 at halftime however when the goalfest end in the 2nd half. Shercock’s overall scoring threat saw them through by 2-13 to 3-7.  Pictures and a more detailed report on the game are available here.   Next up is Lacken at home on Sunday (7th) at 11.30am.

TRAINING.

Most teams are up and running at this stage.  Seniors and Juniors training on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm.  Minors continue on Wednesdays at 7.30pm.  U-16’s are on Fridays at 8pm.  U-14’s on Sundays @ 11.30am.  U-12’ are starting on Monday 8th @ 6.30pm.  That’s all I’ve got so far.

STARS TV

The votes were cast, and despite a late rally for the 1997 Minors (don’t worry lads, we’ll get ye up next) the famous 1990 Ulster Semi v St. Galls was put up on Stars TV. St Gall’s may be preparing for an All-Ireland Final this year, but 20 years ago, they came badly unstuck in O’Raghallaigh Park.

A classic  in every sense, there are many highlights, including us riding out a 1st half storm, some hard, but apparently legal hitting (it’s a different game now), Brendan Farrelly having an absolute stormer (Minors, listen to him, he knows what he’s talking about), Jim & Joe doing what they did, and of course, THAT GOAL….  Just click here & enjoy, and  Oh yeah, just remember, that’s us in the white…..  Obviously no 2nd strip in those days, no Star to be seen!!

LOTTO

This week’s draw took place in Clarkes. There was no jackpot winner & four Match 3 winners (T & A Gray, Ann Farrelly, Angela Hand & Eugene Reilly) each won €50 each.  The winning numbers were 10, 11, 17 & 27 (Bonus 08).  The next draw will take place in Dun A Ri House on Sunday 7th March and the jackpot will be €7,000 (€12,000 including bonus).

SCOR

The club was represented in the County Heats of Scor in Ballyconnell at the weekend.  Congratulations to Jim McGovern, Joe McCarthy & John Forkan who qualified for the final by finishing a very respectable 2nd to Cornafaen in the Question Time.  Well done also to Packie O’Brien who performed exceptionally well, especially in his first time in the event,  in the recital and was most unlucky not to make it through.  The county finals take place this Saturday (6th) in Mullahoran and best of luck to the quiz lads.
