DINNER DANCE

A great night was had by all in the Bailie last Friday night when the club Dinner Dance was held.  With MC, Paddy Sheenan, and Club Chairman, Pat Faulkner in great form on stage, the evening hit the ground running and never slowed down. County Board Chairman, Tom O’Reilly presented the Senior Panel with the 2010 Senior Championship medals and once all the speeches and presentations ended the craic continued late into the night.

A huge thank you to all who attended and especially to the small group of people who organised the event and ensured that the venue looked fantastic and the evening ran like clockwork. Pictures from the night are already up on Facebook and will be on www.kingscourtstars.ie during the week.

STRATEGIC PLAN

During the Dinner Dance, the club’s ambitious five year strategic plan was launched. This plan will be the framework for how the club is run at all levels over the next five years. It is a highly impressive document and was formally launched by Ulster Council President, Aogan Ó Fearghail. Huge credit has to go to all who contributed to the document, whether at the initial community workshop or the subsequent sub committee meetings.

Also, a special thanks to Niall Smith for co-ordinating the whole thing and putting together the final document. Copies of the plan will be available from the committee and can also be requested by sending an e-mail to info@kingscourtstars.ie

MINORS
Despite the Minor’s build up for the league being as successful as a blind date between Enda Kenny and Vincent Browne, the lads made their way up to Terry Coyle Park on Sunday to face the current Minor Champions in Cavan Gaels. A spirited performance from the lads belied the extreme youthfulness of the side and they kept playing until the end when they finally came out on the wrong side of a 2-15 to 2-6 defeat.

However they won’t face tasks like this every week and will gain a lot from the experience. Next up is a home game against Crosserlough on Saturday (Time to be confirmed) and then on the 26th they face to trip to Gowna at 12 noon.

SCOR
The club continued our recent tradition of Scór participation at the weekend when our culture officer, Jim McGovern led a small band of contestants up to Drumlane on Saturday night.  Once again, the Question Time team of Jim, Joe McCarthy and John Forkan didn’t disappoint and made it through to this coming weekend’s county final. Sadly, despite an impressive  performance, John Carolan just failed to make it through in the Recitation.

Credit to all the competitors, and to Jim for single-handedly initiating the club’s recent Scór interest. The county final takes place this Friday night in Mullahoran and as always will feature a great night’s fun. If anyone wishes to go along to support the quiz lads or just see the other entertainment, just contact Jim on 087 2321886 for more details.

MEMBERSHIP
2011 club membership is due again and can be paid in Pat Faulkner’s or M&F’s shops, or indeed to any committee member.  Membership remains the same at €50 for players (€30 for Students/Unemployed) and €20 for Juvenile or Non-Players. Players can also be paid to your various team managers or captains and can also be paid online via www.kingscourtstars.ie for those that are away from the town.

We cannot stress how important membership is to the club’s finances and it is imperative that all club members pay same over the next month or so to ensure the club can continue to be properly run.  As an incentive to supporters to join the club, fully paid up members of the club can avail of discounts into home matches and on upcoming club merchandise. You will also receive complimentary refreshments after home games!! Sure, you’d be mad not to join…

THE PITCH

The Pitch is the new play of former Kingscourt playwright, Shane Connaughton. Shane is known the world over for his fantastic writing, and the club itself was the feature of a super piece which Shane wrote for 50 yr commemeration of O’Raghallaigh Park in 2001. Shane’s new play centres around a character called Philly, who is tormented by painful memories and the unjust fate that holds him prisoner as  he replays the events of that day when his club won the county championship for the one and only time and he wasn’t allowed to play.

The play premieres in The Gonzo Theatre, Cavan on 24th February and given Shane’s connection to the club and the obvious theme of the play, we will be arranging for some club members to be in attendance that night. If you are interested in going please contact Niall (086 8237382) or Jim (087 2321886)
