SENIORS

All good things come to an end and after eleven victories and one draw in competitive matches, Kingscourt suffered their first defeat of the year as Denn gained a deserved four point victory in Virginia on Saturday evening.

While the game was scheduled to start for 7pm, it was a quarter past before Kingscourt turned up. Sadly Denn hadn’t waited and were already 1-5 to 0-0  ahead.  A resolute second quarter, buoyed by a well-worked Darragh Gunne goal, saw Kingscourt narrow the gap to two, before a brace of Denn points put last year’s county finalists 1-7 to 1-3 clear at the break.

The third quarter saw both sides trade scores before a 1-2 blitz from Denn saw the Stars trail by double scores 2-10 to 1-5 with 10 minutes remaining.  Kingscourt rallied towards the end but never looked likely to get the goal required and while five further points gave them hope, the clock ran out to allow Denn claim victory.

After a superb season so far, Kingscourt’s season all boils down to a showdown with Killygarry on Sunday week in Breffni at 3.30pm. Win and were through, lose and were out. Draw, and well who knows.  So, an intense two weeks await and Kingscourt will hope for a return of a few missing faces and the tightening up of a previously iron-clad defence.

JUNIORS

The Juniors open their Junior B championship  away to Crosserlough on Wednesday 29th at 8pm.  Over the Bank Holiday weekend they face a trip to Ballyjamesduff to face Castlerahan in the league on the Monday afternoon, although this may well be changed. Then on Wednesday 5th they will face another away trip to Gowna/Killygarry in the Championship, if they manage to beat Crosserlough in the opening match, that is.

U-16’s

Next up is the U-16 championship and Kingscourt open their campaign on Tuesday 11th August at the Quarter-Final stage where they face a tricky trip to face Division 2 league champions, Gowna.  With a number of this team part of an U-14 side that got knocked out of the championship in Gowna a couple of year back, they will be under no illusions as to the size of the task.

Should they manage to overcome Gowna, they would have a home semi-final agaisnt either Ballyhaise or Cavan Gaels, but we’ll not worry about that one just yet!

JUVENILE

Plenty happening on the Juvenile front at the moment.  The U-15’s played in the 7 A Side Og Sport event at the weekend.  They had a great opening victory over Castlerahan before becoming unstuck against Ramor Utd.

The U-12’s are continuing the weekly 9 A Side Go Blitzes and performing very well indeed.  There are two rounds left in this with the final round in Kingscourt on the morning of the 8th August.  A final super blitz will then take place in Breffin to finish of the tournament.

Training for the U-12, U-13 & U-14 sides re-commences tonight (Monday) at 6.30pm with the U-13 League starting on Tuesday 10th august.  The U-13’s will be managed by James Brown along with senior players, Colm Smith & Shane Gray.

That’s all the info I’ve got for ye on the juvenile side of things.

 LOTTO

This weekend’s draw took place in Malone’s with the jackpot €9,200.  The winning numbers were 03, 14, 20 & 23 (Bonus 27). There was no jackpot winner and just the one Match 3 with P&T c/o Gartlan’s claiming the €200. Next week’s draw will take place in Clarke’s and the jackpot will be €9,400.
