SENIORS
The Seniors maintained their place at the top of Division Two with a dominating second half performance over Drumlane last Saturday. It took a while to get going though, and at half time we only led 0-3 to 0-0 with both sides struggling to find the target.
A major factor in Kingscourt’s revival this year though has been the strength in depth and this was shown in the second half when the additions brought a significant improvement and within 10 minutes, goals from Colm Smith and Sean Og Gargan put us comfortably clear.
Further scores started to flow with Mark McKeown & Philly Tinnelly hitting some super points before Sean Og Gargan bagged his second goal and killed of the challenge of a luckless Drumlane.
The Seniors now have a two week break before they face a trip to Killinkere on Saturday week. After enduring an absolute hiding there last year, the side will be doubly determined to atone for that defeat and remain at the top of the division. Again, we would ask anyone available to make the short trip and support the lads.
JUNIORS
The Juniors kept their 100% record in tact with a 0-14 to 2-6 victory over Cuchullains on Sunday afteroon. A tight game throughout, Kingscourt’s greater scoring threat was the difference. The Stars led 0-6 to 0-4 and while the visitors added two second half goals, our point scoring ability saw us through.
Next week, the Juniors face a trip to Drumlane as they look to make it five out of five. With Drumlane obviously going to be looking to seek revenge after their Seniors were beaten this weekend, this match may not be as straight forward as it looks. Hopefully though a repeat of today’s effort & attitude will hopefully see us return from Milltown with the points.
MINORS
The Minors bowed out of the league when they ran out just short as Ballyhaise defeated them 0-12 to 0-10 in Drumgoon on Sunday morning.
While Kingscourt were missing a number of players, the team spirit seemed significantly improved on the previous week and they started smartly to lead 0-2 to 0-1. However Ballyhaise started to dominate possession and deserved a greater lead than their 0-6 to 0-4 halftime advantage.
Kingscourt continued to battle hard and Barry Reilly started to control things at midfield and with ten minutes remaining there was nothing in it on the scoreboard. Unfortunately some half chances were not taken, and further scores from Ballyhaise saw them home with a two point victory.
A disappointing end to the campaign but if the spirit shown by those togged out today remains through the Summer then there is no doubt that a serious championship run could materialise.
JUVENILE
The 16’s will this week face a trip to Ballyhaise on Tuesday evening. I know I seem to say that every week, but this week it will definitely happen, I think.
The 14’s host Ramor Utd on Thursday down the park at 7.30pm with the 12’s away to Castletara on Monday evening
The 10’s continue training at 11.30pm on Sunday mornings with the U-8’s starting in a welter of excitement this Wednesday from 5.30pm to 7.00pm
GIRLS
The preparations for the girl’s next game continues with training at 11.30pm on Sunday morning. All girls between 7-12 are most welcome
CLUB DAY
The club will mark the GAA’s 125yr anniversary on May 10th with a club day on Sunday May 10th. The event will revolve round a blitz competition involved all club grades between 2-5pm. It will kick of with the Brass Band leading the competing team town to the park when the games will be interspersed with exhibitions from all the club’s teams along with lots of fun activities for all the family. Rumours have it that our two new midfielders last seen on St. Patrick’s Day may also make an appearance
Another part of the day will be a display in the pavilion featuring old reports, features and pictures involving the club from throughout the years. There will also be images from the re-designed website. The previous evening there will be a GAA quiz in M&F’s with full details to be confirmed next week.
We would invite everyone in the community to attend the day for some part. It promises to be a most enjoyable day for everyone, whether you are or have been involved with the club or not. We would especially ask those both new to the town and also those who were involved in the club in the past to come along. You never know who you might meet!
