SENIORS
The Seniors maintained their unbeaten run with a 4-13 to 2-5 victory over Shercock last Saturday. Right from the start, Kingscourt started on the front foot and first half goals from Ryan McCormack (twice) and Paddy Farrelly helped us to a 3-5 to 0-2 halftime lead. A further Barry Tully goal in the second half allowed us increase the lead and at the end gain an impressive victory.
Despite the good start, all connected with the side know that they still have to face many of the top team and this starts this coming weekend when they face a trip to Knockbride at 5pm on Saturday in a top of the table clash. This will be the first encounter with a team challenging at the top and will be a good barometer of how things are progressing.
Once again we would ask all those connected to the club to make a big effort to make the short trip for this match. The players will face a tremendous challenge on the field and if we can maintain the good level of support of the field then it will give them great encouragement. So, drag along a friend, and go and support your local side. As the country is reverting back to the 80’s on so many levels, let’s get the support behind the club back to those halcyon days too.
JUNIORS
After a three week hiatus, the Juniors are back in action this weekend. On Sunday at 2pm they face a trip to Maghera as they look to maintain their 100% start to the season. With competition for place on the Senior team of strong, this has meant for a strong showing from the Junior side so far and hopes will be high that this current run can be continued.
MINORS
The Minors suffered their first defeat of the year at the weekend when they came up just short against St. Joseph’s on Monday afternoon in Ballyconnell. A tough game in poor conditions for both sides and there was very little between them but St. Joseph’s greater strength in depth helped them gain a three point victory on a score line of 1-9 to 0-9.
With both sides already through to the knockout stages, there is every chance they might yet meet again. The Minors finish of their group matches this weekend with a home game against Cavan Gaels at 12pm on Saturday.
JUVENILE
The 12’s suffered another narrow defeat last week going down by three points at home to Laragh. With no game this week, they are next up when they face an away match against Castlerahan at 7.30pm on Monday 20th.
The 14’s will hope to gain their first victory of the season when they host Crosserlough this Thursday (16th) at 7.30pm. After their last-second defeat to Castlerahan in their opening match they will be very determined to get off the mark this time. Following this game they will next be in action the following Thursday when they make the short trip over to Bailieboro.
The 16’s made it two wins from two when they overcome Ramor Utd by 2-10 to 0-11 in terrible conditions last week. Next up is an away match against Ballyhaise at 7.30pm this evening (Tuesday 14th) and then another away game against Castlerahan on the following Tuesday.
The 10’s started training last Sunday and training continues at 11.30pm on Sunday mornings down the park. New members are most welcome.
The 8’s will be starting later on this month. Watch this space!
LADIES
The juvenile U-12 girls had their first game ever at the weekend when they hosted Bailieboro on Saturday morning. Bearing in mind this was their first match together the girls put in a tremendous performance right across the field and everyone of them can be proud of themselves for their part in a 1-7 to 1-7 draw.
